His wallet likely subtracts fees from outputs rather than from the balance. This could be why he was short on the first TXID. When he was informed of the additional amount he needed to send, he copied and pasted that value into his wallet. However, his wallet then deducted the transaction fee from that amount for each transaction.

Assuming he was on the legitimate onion and was not phished and is not spreading FUD.
