The way I understand it, Adderall is a CNS stimulant that works by increasing the activity of neurotransmitters in the brain, whereas methylphenidate is a CNS stimulatant that works by blocking the repuptake of neurotransmitters in the brain. The end result in either case is greater neurotransmitter activity.
The difference either has on each person can be subjective and tends to differ from person to person.
Adderall is typically considered to produce a more pronounced and enjoyable high, whereas methylphenidate's effects will likely feel less noticeable, but that is not to say they are not noticeable at all. they are.
Both do their job pretty well, Adderall might be more effective, but if you've never taken either, methylphenidate will probably do plenty if you're just taking it to get shit done.
From a personal standpoint, I find it harder to sleep after taking methylphenidate than adderall, but again this is subjective. Adderall also makes me have to pee a lot, which is annoying.
