Something I´ve noticed about this message here. In that message he used ’ (right curly quote) as an apostroph. I went through older comments by him and he always used ' (straight quote) as an apostroph. This is common for Germans to do and is technically wrong from a typographical standpoint. I only know it because of my job. Germans tend to do it because it´s easier to type on german keyboards and because they don´t know there is a difference usually.

Of course this could also be a coincidence and I also didn´t go through all of his posts (maybe someone else can check this too?) but I though I´d share this.

Hey all — I’m an ops engineer and wanted to weigh in, since it’s clear the Archetyp engineers have similar backgrounds. I don’t have any info, so take this with a grain of salt. That said, I assume the site is compromised, likely by law enforcement.

The Route 53 move is the main concern. AWS requires verified identity—typically a name, address, and ID. While secondhand accounts exist, they’re short-term. DNS needs long-term stability.

Amazon, as a global company, takes privacy seriously but will comply if legally compelled. A smaller, offshore provider offers more flexibility due to its size and jurisdiction. This makes AWS a poor choice for DNS—especially since clearnet domain names and registry details are public by nature.

Anyone can run "whois $domain" to confirm the domain is hosted via AWS. Even if admin details are masked, the association is clear. Migrating multiple domains tied to criminal activity to a global provider bound by legal obligations, frankly, not just a terrible fucking decision, but insane, suicidal, etc. It wouldn't happen, especially for someone skilled enough to operate for year.

Less critical but still troubling are the details of the event itself. Maintenance and iterative development are not the same. We develop, test, and stage changes before deploying to production. If issues arise, we roll back to a known-good state.

Maintenance, by contrast, involves planned downtime—announced in advance, with regular updates, especially if it runs long. Professional engineers don’t “fix things” directly on production systems due to the high risk of outage. And if that outage happens, we don’t call it maintenance.

Finally, the stated reason—“making it easier for everyone to access the main mirror”—is vague, but not suspicious on its own. I rarely give detailed explanations to non-engineers either.

What stands out, though, is that for a site known for its resilience, the explanation feels off. We design for redundancy to avoid SPOFs (single points of failure), meaning critical services are replicated. The “main mirror” should itself be a redundant cluster, not a single machine.

Historically, Archetyp’s uptime has been uniquely impressive. That doesn’t happen without following best practices—practices that would’ve prevented the issue described

An open letter to governments and law enforcement

After Archetyp became the #1 market since ASAP announced its retirement, I think not only will this market be in the focus of the government and consequentially law enforcement with an immense and disproportional amount of resources more than ever, but I also think the attention can be used for something more impactful than Archetyp being taken down one day. I know you deep down already know while you hate to admit, but such a takedown will not change anything. At all. Let me elaborate and give some food for thought.

We have not created this issue. We have not created the market around Archetyp.
The drug market has evolved and exploded over the past decades. We are not the reason humans crave drugs more than ever. Again, we have not created this market. This is something only corporations worlds bigger and more powerful than our small project here do. Truly bad humans. They create issues and provide the 'solution'. We did not create any issue. It was there before and will remain when we are gone. Deep problems in our system and society did. If you don't notice rising tension and people living lives they would prefer not to live the way they do left and right, there could be two reasons for this. You don't want to notice it, or you're blatantly lying. What we are actually doing, however, is fueling and pushing an inevitable radical change.

Everyone reading this can name someone who should cut down on Ibuprofen and a glass of wine or other socially accepted drugs. They are nothing other than that, drugs. In addition, usage of illegal drugs is probably more common than one might think, judging from a few customers whose information went past my eyes as a part of our work supporting their purchases. Behind both of this lies the same drive. They are looking to improve their current life and feeling. Why would they do that if everything is great?

Coming back to the introduction of this letter, we have not created this issue. I hope the number for this is close to zero, and I am truly sorry for every negative impact this site also has, but I am also confident that we saved more of them with this platform. I absolutely believe there are heroes without capes amongst them (think cases like No Limits Fun and Peter Scully, I applaud and thank you for your work), but when you look at how resources are wasted hunting down markets just for the next one to pop up a few weeks later, you might think about it again. The agencies and agents involved will be looking forward to a great career after an operation like that, and they are the definition of just doing their job, but who was saved by this? Wasn't your initial motivation to make the world a better and safer place? Not even your experiment of putting Ross into prison for multiple lives has made an impact. To be fair, it did have an impact. You showed your tyranny and the world was watching. Over 500,000 people have signed his petition by now. You motivated some of us to continue his legacy. I don't think this is the impact you were looking for, though. You wanted to make an example out of him with this sentence that is so out of range that it is hard to grasp. You ended his life for the mistakes you make. While he started something back then, he also did not create the market nor the issue.

Not everyone in the history of markets had the same motivation. Looking at all the exit scams, I must admit that I fear most are in for the money. There is nothing wrong with doing it for money, and the money to be earned in this economic sector is quite inviting, for sure. They are just playing the game they were put into when they were born into this system. While I hate to say this, even the exit scammers did their part here. Every single market showed you over and over again: You will never stop this. Ever.

Guys, do you know what i observated over time.

When i logged in few months ago (like 3-4) and i had the security mode (java) on standard, i got a message on Archetyp, when i logged, to changed java script to be more save.

Now, for like 1 month, the message didnt appear anymore, while i switched java mode from standard to very secure and back.

My Archetyp account with US $250 inside it is gone and my order of heroin never arrived but it looks like FBI tipped off the Royal Thai Police who delivered the parcel at the secret location. - If you planned the maintenance, why not saying it beforehand and why not giving updates on status
- Why not giving any sort of news whatsoever

I hope the market gets back up. I've been searching for a good hash vendor for some time since flower makes me hella paranoid. Received bomb hash from a vendor I tried out recently. But as soon as pack landed Arch went kaput so now I can't go finalize the order. They deserve their xmr broski.

Also my heart goes out to all non scammer vendors who are affected by this. As someone who buys for personal use my wallet would be considered pocket change but you guys hussled for your riches so I hope it works out and everyone gets their well earned xmr.

If this is really the end of Arch I can say it's been a good time for the small part i've been here for it. Thanks to everyone involved in keeping it up for so long. One thing is for sure, if any of the other markets want to live up to Arch they will have their work cut out for them.
