Are there any exceptions for VPNs? : OpSec | Torhoo darknet markets

I know VPNs are usually discouraged around here depending on who you ask, but I was wondering what you think about using something like Mullvad as an extra layer of security, for example, acting as a kill switch to turn off your internet access in case of a leak. What you use instead? if not a VPN

I know Mullvad accepts XMR and even cash by mail. I also read that they were raided by the Swedish police, and nothing was retrieved from them.

well, Mulldav i think is the best option for a good security and anonymity, but keep in mind that Mulldav will know witch is you IP and if someday you do something that triggers the Feds and want you on jail, they will ask Mulldav for your IP and they will 100% give it to them.

But for an extra layer i will say that using a VPN, and then and VM with a good residential proxy, that's probably the best option for an extra layer of security.

Though, Mullvad doesn't keep logs and has allegedly been audited to not keep logs. Wouldn't this mean the feds would be able to make only short-term IP associations? I agree that using reliable VPN is better than not using VPN.
As far as I have read, Mullvad does not keep logs, which is mainly why the Swedish police didn't get anything from them.

well that true they don't get logs, but they have to know your IP, so at then end if you do a big mistake, they could give it, not 100% they will do, but if you rob 1million, they will probably give your IP.

And they might say they don't keep logs, but now a days, i wont trust any company, apple said that and they have spyware on all their computers, so i wont trust that ngl.

I trust IVPN and Mullvad, they both say no logs are kept, I personally don't use vpns, but I would trust those 2.

mullvad, mullvad doesn't keep logs. there was an investigation where the swedish police asked for logs.
this is the official post of mullvad.

On April 18 at least six police officers from the National Operations Department (NOA) of the Swedish Police visited the Mullvad VPN office in Gothenburg with a search warrant.
They intended to seize computers with customer data.

In line with our policies such customer data did not exist. We argued they had no reason to expect to find what they were looking for and any seizures would therefore be illegal under Swedish law. After demonstrating that this is indeed how our service works and them consulting the prosecutor they left without taking anything and without any customer information.

If they had taken something that would not have given them access to any customer information.

Mullvad have been operating our VPN service for over 14 years. This is the first time our offices have been visited with a search warrant.

A VPN like Mullvad as extra layer of security when you're not using Tor? Yes. As an extra layer of security when you ARE using Tor? The Tor project themselves do not recommend using a VPN with Tor if you don't have to. It decreases your privacy and anonymity in multiple ways, Orbot is a good VPN for android as it routes your traffic through Tor. It is also free and helps the network.
Yes, changing your geography -- that is all. Unless you are using a cell phone. Then, nothing at all.
