TUI is shorthand for "terminal user interface." Programs in the terminal that render pretty interfaces. Some examples are profanity (XMPP client), htop (think Windows Task Manager in the terminal), bottom (like htop, but prettier), gping (ping command with a chart), etc. A full list of programs like this is available on GitHub at rothgar/awesome-tuis :)
