I would give them another day or two before we start suspecting an exit scam or an LE take down.
Usually the best exit scam strategy is to leave the market open and running as normal so that people will continue to make deposits while withdrawals are blocked.
They'd be leaving a lot of potential money on the table by just straight taking the market down.

I've been through a lot of exit scams, and most of them stop withdrawals for at least a few days or even a couple weeks first, and then they make some excuse like they're having problems with their wallets, but that they're fixing the problem and everyone will get their money soon.
Or there's been some exit scams like Bohemia, which went the extra step and even stopped us vendors being able to edit our listings or take the listings down. This is a way to get customers to continue placing orders like nothing happened, and the vendor can't even warn anyone not to place an order, because unfortunately a lot of people don't use Dread frequently enough to know if a market is pulling some kind of scam.

Hope this helps, at least a little anyway 👍

Thanks 🙂
You got to remember that a lot of people can't get their "fix" now, so they'll be itching and scratching and thinking of all the worse case scenarios.
Yes, the worse case may have happened and Archetyp might have been taken over by LE, but it does no good speculating when it's not even been 24 hours.
Is it gets more than 24 hours without any updates from the admin then I will start to worry a little more.

Remember to always PGP encrypt any sensitive data on any market, because at least then if LE take over, they won't be able to read the messages and connect different accounts to in real life people.
It's the people who put their full address in clear text, or send the tracking information in clear text that have to worry the most.

Always use pgp to encrypt your shipping info. If you lose your pgp private key and have 2-FA enabled you will lose access to your account. Be sure to make a backup of your pgp key pair to a safe place.

Would you like to post that to /d/OpSec? I'm a mod there. I'll approve it. It's a perfect time to be giving that advice. I won't steal your post.

Sure, I'll do it now! 🙂 👍
thats why its more likely a seizure. but also he could just exit scam with a maintenance page so no one freaks out (its been working so far up until now) and he can safely move and hide all the crypto, and do everything he needs too. he has more then enough money.

but its been almost 18 hours man, with ZERO communication from ASNT... not even to his subdread mods. im sorry to say but now your the one who isnt being logical. also, if it is just maintenance, why take down whowasteam.love? and if it is just maintenance, he would of gave a update by now. somethings wrong. IF the site does come back up (big if) i wouldnt trust it, it could be like hansa where the feds took over the market to catch vendors/users. thats what might be taking so long too, LE changing and taking over the servers. that would explain why theres no coms from ASNT too

True, but everyone should know not to keep funds in their wallet on any market in case of these reasons.
If he's been busted then there's not much that can be done about that. But to make assumptions about an exit scam before it's even been 24 hours seems a little crazy to me.
It will be more clearer and easier to know what is happening in a couple of days. That's all I'm saying.

i mean he'll have a lot money just from the escrow orders, and the funds in vendor accounts. plus all the money hes made over the 5 years. im not saying he FS exit scammed, im just saying its most likely a LE seizure, or a exit scam at this point. its been 18 hours
/u/simplysteroids Vendor

I would still at least wait 24 hours.
It's the people who put their full address in clear text, or send the tracking information in clear text that have to worry the most about an LE take over.
If it is an exit scam then yes, people will lose money that they have in escrow, and that is a shame, but everyone should assume that any money they put into a darkweb market can be lost at any time if you placed the order at an unlucky time (just before an exit scam or LE take down).

I also managed to make a successful withdrawal about 30 mins before the site went down, which gives me more faith.

Also, if you ordered before the last 24-48 hours, vendors should still be shipping the orders (if they marked it as shipped already).
We've done this throughout every exit scam/LE take over, even if we know we'll never get the money off the market. Repeat business and customer trust is worth more than losing a thousand dollars here and there. Vendors know the risk of possibly losing money due to exit scams and LE take downs while selling on these markets.
yeah i know all that and agree completely. but the people like /u/beezlebub or u/newbieforever2018 who just say its all okay when they themselves know nothing, knowing its been 18 hours since the sites been on maintenance, and ZERO communication from ASNT, and the fact that whowasteam.love was taken down? they know all that and cant even admit its a little sketchy? there fooling themselves and cant think clearly, cause they think they "know" the admin better then we do so he would "never exit scam"

any admin can exit scam, any market can be seized. the fact that there's till people who wont admit theres red flags, thats what bothers me.

Yes, but I agree with them that it's extremely unlikely to be an exit scam. It could be an LE takeover, but it's also no good speculating when in the end there's nothing that we can do about it apart from wait to see if there are any updates.
yeah i think its more likely to be a LE seizure too. but it could be a exit scam is all i meant. its definitely not a normal maintenance..
/u/simplysteroids Vendor

I also don't know how you can say "its definitely not a normal maintenance". Do you have information that we don't?
I just don't understand how you can be so sure before it's even been 24 hours.

Also remember that the market has just gone through a bunch of heavy DDOS attacks, so they could be doing maintenance due to something to do with that.

No one can be sure of anything at the moment.
because ASNT hasnt spoken to anyone!!!!!!! lol thats the biggest red flag, also why is whowasteam.love down? its been almost 19 hours, and ASNT must know its caused a shit storm since it wasn't announced (another red flag) so why wouldn't he just come make a small update with PGP signature?? he also hasnt spoken to any of the /d/archetyp subdread mods...

Calm down. I'm just trying to be reasonable and not jump to conclusions at the first sign of the market being down.
It's not like you're saving people by telling them that LE have taken over, no one can log in to get their money out.

I'm just saying that it's best to wait longer.
I've been through about 8 exit scams/LE take downs and lost well over $40k total that we had in escrow on those markets.
yeah your right, and me too. i havent lost that much but with empire i lost 3.8k

It's horrible when it happens, but I always keep this in the back of my mind and try not to consider any money in escrow as mine until I actually have it in my private wallet and off the market.
Luckily we're an FE vendor on Archetyp, so if it is gone for good, we haven't lost anything this time.

People sometimes forget that we are dealing with illegal activities here and expect it to be treated as if it were some shopify store.

The fact that the marketplace is doing maintenance without any clear notice does not make it strange. Probably some weaknesses were found that need to be fixed immediately and because they are so busy with it they haven't posted an announcement yet

It is a marketplace of over 600K users, the vast majority of whom do not even use Dread.

So relax a bit instead of spreading FUD

They said somewhere they'd need to do maintenance once the ddos attacks were mitigated. They also said "It's a work in progress so if it goes down, its likely because we're performing updates, maintenance or further mitigation".

They did some maintenance a few months ago that took a day, the doom mongers were running around like headless chickens then screeching exit scam, exit scam, but the market came back and everything was fine. Just like it will be later on today.

The trouble with all the doom mongering among the markets user base, it fuels the paranoid psychosis that most of us who frequent the market would likely have to some extent. That's why the concern spreads so quickly without a 2nd thought.
Apply some logical thought and its obviously not an exit scam, unless its the most idiotic, back to front one ever attempted that intentionally prevents people from accessing the market to deposit funds.

Ignore the hysteria, it happens every time it goes offline, whether its off for an hour or 20 hrs, the market always returns.

If nothing changes for 3 days, thats when I'd start getting concerned, 2 days offline has happened before.
I always PGP encrypt sensitive info and never enter real info in clear text or use markets 'built in' PGP encrypt functionality. Been using GnuPG / Kleopatra since the silk road days. Id never do the dark net without it.

Few hours under maintenance 5+ years of up-time and they just dumped money & a bunch of time to fix the DDOS issues a few weeks ago. Think people are uneasy because their isn't a dread post to go along with it. BigBoss seems to always be a move ahead, so i am sure their is a good reason for it.
