That joke was totally out of the context. Ranveer just said it to attract some eyes from the audience.
He got successful in doing so but what followed was totally unnecessary. Making it a national issue was unnecessary. Involving police from multiple states was unneccesary.
The censorship board along with Mumbai Police should have taken the steps and the issue might have been resolved. It might be a planned decision taken by the kingpin controlling the OTTs. Look at JioHotstar, all the top notch comedians surrendered to it. They might be waiting for Samay to come back to India and launch IGL on some OTT, totally controlling the content of the show.

The reality is that we tend to take offense quite easily, and our SC judges seem to reflect an outdated perspective on almost anything.

Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud wields the power to make meaningful changes but puts in hardly any effort to pass decent laws. Heck, how they leap at the chance to limit our freedom of expression at every turn!, sickening !

This ongoing controversy seems to matter more than the lives lost during the Mahakumbh. I see these Modi ads in the papers praising the Mahakumbh, but just think for a moment about the families who lost loved ones in that stampede. This clown, Toad Deaf Modi, seems utterly clueless, lacking even the basic education to read the room or acknowledge any fault. It's as if he views people as cattle, and until they gain some self-preservation and self-respect, I don’t see any chance for real progress

Exactly! We don't have freedom of speech in this country and people, by and large, don't care for freedom of speech. It's very sad but it's true. And unfortunately, even the US isn't doing so good right now, they're trying to deport international students for protesting against the government. That's the kind of thing our government does, and it's very sad to see the US (a country I genuinely look up to) stooping so low.

BTW I have absolutely no problems with USG deporting any students who actually commit crimes, but they're taking it too far.

i meant in reference to citizens speech, diplomatic dialogues are a different ballgame. US citizens can say weird ass shit and hurl crazy abuses to the president in front of his office on loudspeaker and still go home happy. In India we have 10 bullshit laws to prevent us from doing that, to restrict us in any way, using vague terms. I would say the average american may truly speak their mind in public without any fear, but it surely isnt true here.
