IMHO exploitation would be requiring that those providing banner images not be allowed to charge more than $100 for them. Bidding is as American pie as ebay. Banner creators can certainly go on strike and refuse to work for less than $500.

Your content might be worth $500 whereas mine is only worth $100.
Does that mean that I should not be allowed to work? That would be price fixing.

If your work / time is more worth, then why don't you just make work for a client?
Regardless, most banner on the darkweb are just other google images put together in photoshop. Let's say a mid level graphic designer charges 20 - 50 bucks, that's 10 - 25 hours (and here you don't have to pay taxes, half of your money won't get stolen but rather about 10% cashing out fees). In that amount of time you could easily paint something, but most people won't put in that effort.

And yes, I'm aware of the 10 XMR contest by Tribe Seuss, because I was the one that won it. I actually didn't expect to win as people usually prefer photorealism over cartoon character art, but I didn't paint graffiti for several months, so I joined it for the fun, painted a wall and it turned out I won.
But it was so hard to put all that time into it besides work, and I didn't even have a full time job back then. I was only able to pull if of because it was extended for one week.

But apart from that, you won't earn a lot with graphic design here anyway. There are only a few vendors / markets having a banner and once it's paid, there is no reason to buy another one.
The Archetyp admin told me about 5 years ago on Deutschland im Deepweb after winning a contests that the design of the market was made for 20000 bucks if I remember correctly. While this sounds a lot, it's not that much considering e-Commerce agencies sell Shopwareshops with some custom theme and not even custom written plugins for like X00,000-X,000,000 euros.

You have better chances on clear web, unless you have a lucky punch. But even then, just think about the time you log in, ask around for work and so on. If you add this up, any mid level graphic designer or (even better) any web dev job will get you more money and will give you more professional gain, even with taxes reduced. Web dev is more favorable, as graphic designers are more replaceable and usually earn less due to the higher demand of web dev compared to web design.
