They are nothing they claim to be. Not journalists (where are they journalists exactly? posting a Tweet every few weeks or months with old news or like 5 or 6 posts articles over multiple years doesn't count). No uptime monitoring that is all so valuable to researchers (as per website copy). None of that. It's a link list.
Remember your own comment about agendas, I believe this part of the dark web to be a rather small amount of people. Even fewer who really run the services. Since exit scams, manipulation, deception, attacking competitors or alike is a frequent thing to occur and dark.fail is a big name, there could be countless types of payments.

For me, personally, the subscription observations speak for themselves. You don't even have to believe the subscriptions never worked. Nobody, and I mean literally nobody, would buy this unironically to a point that made us try to purchase it for the shit and giggles.

Sam Bent for example talks about manipulation and whatnot all the time, while he is best friends with godman666.
