[DISCUSS] Dread decay : Dread | Torhoo darknet markets

This is not intended to be a long-winded whinge, just a simple observation and follow-up question.

Over recent months there have been several comments that Dread is dead, and nothing much happens here.

In contrast with that, we see comments from the archons of Dread suggesting that they want to see it promoted.

This prompts the question: what do you want Dread to be? It's hard to promote a site that has an identity crisis.

As of now, there's a lot of dog shit on Dread, regularly. There are a few islands of quality content (not enough).

So what do you (all of you) want Dread to be? What do you want it to have on it? How can this goal be achieved?

I think it is what it is... doesn't seem to broken so I don't see why any fix is needed.
Simple forum for people to post sketchy shit. Mods seem to be watching after people so that's good.
What else do you want? A Facebook tab? TikTok dance studio?

Dread was a source of information when it started alot has changed since then.

Its now a hub for scammers, shills and drug dealers which is used to push traffic to the markets which through advertising fund dreads existence.

The abuse of AI is definitely a concern right now. It seems like there's always some sort of agenda behind it, whether it be for advertising purposes or to gain access to personal information. However, if you're willing to invest in a high-quality machine that can run locally, the payoff can be substantial. With just a few thousand dollars, you could potentially make even more with uncensored models and GPT Chat. In fact, I remember hearing about someone who first used such technology during a war to translate languages, then put up a service on Fiverr to monetize it.

People primarily come to dread to research and learn about DNMs, which it serves that purpose fairly well. Shill accounts pose some issues but those who spend enough time here can usually sort through that garbage. Those of us who have been here that long also get really annoyed with the constant "Yo dawg, need best vendor for X" posts that happen from people who can't figure out the search bar or read back a few days in a subdread, which leads to less welcoming veterans and further enables the shills. Making new accounts unable to post threads for a certain time or score achievement could help here and forums in the 90s often had these restrictions.

There is also a limited amount of content which can be created for guides and harm reduction related to drugs, which has mostly been done already but this information is also widely available on the clear net. Without the ability to host media, dread is pretty limited in what it can offer beyond text and the kids want flashy stuff. Every new engaging subdread that isn't drug or DNM related fizzles out after a couple weeks since it can be found with more users on the clearnet.

There honestly isn't much it can offer beyond market news, fraud guides, vendor reviews, contests, and shit posts.

I think OP tried to imply that Dread isn't really active with regulars contributing to making this whole forum lively. It's mostly ads after ads after ads after ads and in between that you get fucking randos posting the same fucking noob question that has been asked a zillion times(not to take into account that most of these questions are basically people being fucking lazy and lacking common sense/resourcefulness), really mediocre trolls, the rare and occasionally reasonable shitpost and if you're lucky you'll actually have a thread or 2 in there that will be a legit topic of discussion or something worthwhile.

Dread is dead. It really has exponentially gone downhill since like last year or even a lil before that. Not trying to throw shade at the admins or anyone, it really is what it is.

People really quickly jump at any opportunity to say Dread's become this repetitive advertising rag and soapbox for brainrot child noobs wanting to be spoonfed everything, but few step up to actually try and do anything about it.

Hug, Paris, Shaky, and Solar are just barely keeping all this shit up and running - go look at Shaky or Solar's comment history! It's endless streams of, "Wrong sub, please move to /d/TheRightSub."

Then Paris is constantly being dragged for....making decisions, in his seriously unique position, which trolls pile on with claims they're evidence of vague, mysterious intentions to extort Dread users for... maybe like, they usually dunno. But it's there, alright.

And how many fucking identities has Hug been accused of juggling over the years? He runs all the markets, is personally responsible for the fentanyl crisis, is DeSnake's dad, and personally responsible for the downfall of Ross Ulbricht.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to just get one decent sub back on it's feet, clearing out all those spam ads, trying to create a framework for the community, really putting work in. And not only is it exhausting but I haven't even made a dent in what should be a simple process. One sub. I don't envy the Dread admins one bit and I respect the fuck out of them more than I did before.

Why aren't more people trying to be involved with the community rather than just being present so they know how best not to get fucked over by the next market seizure or exit scam? This isn't Reddit, not all the mods here are exclusively focused on jamming their chode into everyone's cereal for the fuck of it. This is an actual community that requires community effort, engagement, and contributions.

Dude, i legit am trying to be actively part of the community tho it has been getting pretty fucking redundant for a while now. Like i said in my previous post, not trying to shit on Dread as a whole(or even the admins/mods as a matter of fact), it's currently in a really weird phase/state and there really isn't anything anyone can do about it. I'll still comeback whenever i can(tho i've been MIA for the past 2 weeks) and try to interact with the regulars or people in general but right now Dread is pretty dead.

I'd rather have it the way it is right now than being flooded with reddit-tier shitters turning this place into a fucking normie playground.

To be clear, I wasn't saying that you personally weren't actively participating. But when I read a broad and sweeping comment like, "Dread is dead," it's received exactly as it sounds.
it's currently in a really weird phase/state and there really isn't anything anyone can do about it. I'll still comeback whenever i can(tho i've been MIA for the past 2 weeks) and try to interact with the regulars or people in general but right now Dread is pretty dead.
I don't know if your current account age accurately reflects how long you've been on Dread or not (mine certainly doesn't) but just assuming it does, that's the thing.

Years ago (pre-COVID I guess), the userbase was smaller but the community was fucking tight. I would assume at the time most of us had been at it from the start with SR1 - no guides, tutorials, walkthroughs, just each other (especially so for people like myself, who have the unique misfortune of being subject to Australian customs and border force).

Discussions were more spirited and had more depth perhaps because we were still trying to figure out how the fuck it was that we were taking money, turning it into e-coins, and the next day some of the best drugs at the best prices we'd ever seen would be delivered to our letterbox.

Most of that aura has been dissolved now, not all of it, but the majority of it which fueled the discussions and arguments and bullshit that Dread was in the beginning was retired once resources grew to what they are now - and that's a good thing, really.

I think we are agreeing from opposite ends of the same point. But I thoroughly enjoy just digging through the troves of knowledge, experience, and absolutely cooked ass bullshit that's been accumulated the last 6 or 7 years when things get quiet around the holidays, that's when I get work done and set up all my mischief for the new year.

Then wild shit goes down, Dread is flooded for a few months, and the cycle repeats.

Fair enough. I wish it could go back to the old days to be quite honest with you. I was lurking dread for a year or so before being finally able to make an account(registration of new accounts were on hold for most of 2021) but other than that, i've been around the block since 2017(dunno why it took me that long to finally find out about dread and that it took a really weird misfortune for me to find my way on here).

Archon, in gnosticism, any of a number of world-governing powers that were created with the material world by a subordinate deity called the Demiurge (Creator). Although gnosticism did not constitute a single movement, most gnostics were religious dualists who held that matter is inferior and the spirit is good and that salvation is attained by esoteric knowledge, or gnosis.

Because the gnostics of the 2nd and 3rd centuries regarded the material world as outright evil or as the product of error, Archons were viewed as maleficent forces. They numbered 7 or 12 and were identified with the seven planets of antiquity or with the signs of the zodiac. Some gnostic thinkers, such as Valentinus, developed mythologies inspired by the Christian idea of salvation through the Incarnation of Christ. In these narratives the Demiurge and the Archons were identified with the God, the angels, and the Law of the Old Testament and hence received Hebrew names. The recurring image of Archons is that of jailers imprisoning the divine spark in human souls held captive in material creation. According to some mythologies, the purpose of the gnosis sent from the realms of divine light beyond the universe, through the divine emanation (aeon) Christ, was to enable gnostic initiates to pass through the spheres of the Archons into the realms of light.

Trolling comes from fishing. It's a baiting method for catching fish. You dangle your bait in the water and then you make it trail in order for the fish to follow it so that you end up reeling it when it's as close and as easy for you to catch it effortlessly.

Applied in this context it would mean me deliberately trying to get a reaction out of you by saying something to catch your attention and to fish a reaction out of you and then as soon as i get my reaction, i just keep saying more stupid shit or deliberately saying shit in order to keep making you react so that i can laugh at your expense.

I've done nothing of that nature throughout our interactions so now shut the fuck up and go learn how to properly spell the word "douche" you dumbass.

Reddit has way more diversity and conversation. I think that might be part of the issue as well. Just by the nature of the Tor in general, there are way less users, and conversation simply cannot be like it is anywhere else due to necessary OpSec and paranoia. Go on reddit and you'll see a swath of OpSec violations and people talking about personal details; gossip, stories, pictures... endless amounts of data that would be appalling here on Dread, but ultimately facilitate general conversation.

In other words, you see much more conversation on reddit because people are willing to give up OpSec to make people laugh, or share screenshots of a convo with their boss, etc. Ex. /r/AITAH, /r/antiwork, /r/confession, /r/pics and so on. You'll simply just never find that here.

The major exception is /d/CafeDread; it's like the majority of popular reddit subs coalesced into one (albeit still conforming to the culture of privacy). Everything else is (like others have already said) hacking, scamming and drugs because those are the few things you can't really talk about on the clearnet.

I only read posts from a specific set of people, who I consider time worthy. so I will base future relevant statements on that fact.

Realistically, What do people expect to happen here? see the CIAs plans to overthrow Assad?

This site actually has a potential to make a unique identity as a place to Learn/discuss topics freely in addition to obtaining wares/services that are considered socially unacceptable. Thats what I use it as(the learning aspect of course), so I guess by conjunction thats what I need it to be.

In terms of dog shit.

I personally dont care for the crack addicts and whatever market they populate, they have a short shelf life and more will always come to replace the last generation after they overdose and die. Neither do I care for wakandan niggers from Reddit like /u/TTTZ who chooses to censor people.
The "bruh lmfao yo muh dick" which populate posts are also braincell reducing.

encourage higher quality posts and this site has its identity.

As far as promoting goes. Im not sure how it would be done. I stumbled into Dread purely by chance and nothing else. theres obviously going to be a target audience. but how are you going to reach them? Twitter? what are you going to say? you can buy drugs online here? can the average user be bothered to learn linux and use tor? The nature of dread makes it hard to promote. At least in my eyes

Mamba makes a strong point. Hate to think how much worse the Bohemia debacle would've been without Dread's presence; likewise Incognito and so on.

From a Harm reduction and basic opsec on all fronts POV, they aren't glam but some of the most important resources Dread can provide. Yeah, that means a stream of noobs all asking the same thing, they don't search first, everything others have said.
Streamline that in some way. Restrict posting for the first 24 hours? Auto-dump all new registrations into a "HOW TO USE DREAD" sub or some damn thing. Just throwing panties at the wall here...

i would hope that dread could serve as something similar to reddit, but with more anonymity and less focus on pushing politics - just an organic, community-focused and community-driven place for discussion.

it's pretty surprising that there isn't a ton of activity here. i think there just isn't as much drive in society for anonymity or discussion as you'd originally think.

maybe there is just less benign activity on the darknet than one would hope. most people probably just see it as a place for illegal activity, unfortunately, although the shaping of that reputation was neither accidental or one-sided.
/u/footsteps 📢
1 points
It sounds like you think it should be like a geek convention, sharing technical tips, info, and links, which seems to happen a bit, but not as much as it could. There's no problem with political ranting, there are the occasional threads with some political and economic venting where people can say a lot more than on clearnet (but not really as much as you would expect on the DW), but it doesn't take up a big share of any activity. Most people just aren't that interested unless it's an issue that could get in the way of their "hobbies", illicit or otherwise.

As far as crime goes, there's not really any on Dread per se, and an awful lot of fakers and blowhards trying to do offsite deals/scams via messages. "Illegal" is obviously not the same as "wrong", there are plenty of jurisdictions that criminalise things that they have no moral right to. So by illegal, you probably mean "criminialised transactions" rather than anything specifically intended to harm someone, or things that are only illegal in some places and probably should not be illegal.

Some of what seems like lack of activity seems to be a function of the technology - you can't have all the bouncy features of the clearnet, and it limits what content can be put on here - mostly it has to be summaries with links to other sites or files. Some of it seems to be structural, with new disposible accounts able to spam the site and undermine the quality, but there is a case for allowing plenty of noise to persist.

Well, since you asked:

1. More accountability for staff (and by extension more respect for the userbase, even the "baby bottles" that get banned for sneezing the wrong way with no justice or recourse)
2. More belligerence (eg. allow discussing 3D printing, martial chemistry, and active subversion)

Get those two things done and I'll tattoo the Dread logo on the inside of my asscheek. With proof.
/u/footsteps 📢

How would you prove it was your asscheek? Sending a DNA swab as well?

I suspect 2. is pretty unlikely, because the landlord is not interested in the attention it might bring.
As for 1. how would you enforce that?! The way to deal with bottles is to incentivise them to reach a non-bottle threshold.
/u/Inquisitor_1002
1 points
/d/DreadXposed tried to enforce it through transparency but then the guy got banned for it. There are other solutions, however you can't fix a problem unless you first acknowledge that there's a problem, and you can't openly acknowledge that there's a problem when all the mods and big-shot sheeple gang up on you every time you try to bring it up, and do worse when you insist.

I don't think banning somebody unjustly (*cough* /u/TvComplainer *cough*) and then insisting that they were banned justly (*cough* /u/Shakybeats *cough*) while refusing to show proof incentivizes anybody to do a damn thing differently other than walk on eggshells.

About the tattoo: no DNA needed, just check the photo for doctoring. I doubt anybody else has the same tattoo in the same spot.

Nobody's going to be checking.

If you think all mods get together for a gangbang, I think you're mistaken... there are some who "know" each other well, but they are cliques within cliques. Not many users really care that much, they don't treat the place like some kind of game of risk with territory to bicker over, it's just bits of information sharing between people of varying backgrounds and descriptions with different levels of competence or bullshitting.

I don't have any interest in DNMs, but for others, they are the main event here, and we rarely interact.

Not many users really care that much

This would be the reason we can't have nice things such as transparency and users' rights. The point of DX was to show the ugly truth to the people and harness the power of their reactions, but as you said, nobody's checking. Sadly the masses aren't accustomed to respect and liberty, so they do not expect it.

I think you're mistaken...

You're too high up in the totem pole to see (or care about) how "outsiders" are treated and how the higher ups support abuse of power. The suppression of opinions is Stalin tier. HugBunter for me holds the #1 spot for the world's top gaslighter. Speaking of which I recently saw him locking a thread that was accusing him of bad business practices. It really showed the tyrannical attitude of our supreme leader.

I am not high up any totem pole, and the reason why I don't see or care about some issues is because I have nothing to do with them, I don't take an interest, I don't follow them, I don't know about any of the events that might be on your mind. There's no use talking to me about them, because they are outside my world completely.

I really value this website and what it offers. It's true that I haven't been signing in as much lately because I'm just scrolling through for news but not contributing very much at all. To begin with, my lack of engagement was due to poor knowledge of OPSEC, but now it's mostly out of sheer laziness. After observing the caliber and quality of posts here recently, it has inspired me to participate more actively. There isn't another public forum I've discovered that provides the same level of service and insight as this one. Is there anything like this elsewhere? While Breaking Bad is an excellent show, its fanbase can be quite narrow, and I definitely wouldn't want to be part of a group called "BF.st". Dread has provided me with much more than I initially anticipated.

What is your opinion on this? What do you want Dread to be? I think you are one of the biggest contributors of "dog shit content" on Dread this post refers to.

Do you want Dread to be full of memes and ASCII art? Also I am disappointed that you never posted MGS related ASCII.

when I found dread 8+ years ago, it was a amazing community where i was constantly leaning. The was so much help being offered and so much education.... then it drifted to more adds upon adds, more then time square and i faded away. Coming back recently its seams like a place to just roast people, sling fud, and just plain talk shit and troll. I really rember belonging to a community know i fell like im at a frat party.

Something is not adding up.

You haven't proven any point you fucking retard. All you've done so far is sperg out with your elementary level "insults" if we can even call them that and everytime i reply to your posts to settle the score, you just keep replying back with more cringe nonsense just for the sake of having the last say. You are beyond retarded and you reason like a fucking child. Kill yourself.
