Bit boring. I don't see why Nihilist blog should suffer the comparison to Dread's /d/OpSec sub. I like both. I go to the first when I'm trying to learn something I already know I need. To the second when I want to dig into unfolding events related to OPSEC, or simply to chat about cybersecurity. Both are good sources of information. Both have limits. I understand the need for monetization from Nihilist, but it gets me to wonder if Sam's article could have been sponsored (I don't think so but still). I expect /d/OpSec mods to bring on technical excellence, but I know running volunteer work modding such a huge sub is exhausting, 7 days a week involvement.
Only thing I agree is AI slop. /u/beelzebub /u/mrbacon420 and other mods, with all due respect, some recent posts were straight out ChatGPT. This is not what I want to read on /d/OpSec. Just my opinion though.

Yes, the pure AI generated comments are annoying, especially when they don't add any value. We try to capture such AI comments with the automod filters, it works 50/50, and we do not approve these AI comments. We consider cleaning / hiding such comments when we see them, we see how we do.

It is not as bad as I sound. I just saw a couple of posts that were average at best, sometimes truly mediocre. Like this one /post/5e748eaf42ab1e53f9e1. It's either OP is larping (why?) or they're trying to push AI bullcrap. They stuffed a bunch of keywords ("OSINT", "listeners", "sniffing") on top of a anxiety post any buyer can relate too. And just went with it. You told me once about LLMs being good for anonymization. I don't care that much about smileys and grammar. But I'm concerned with the lack of substance.

It's not easy going through walls of text wondering if OP is using AI or just confused. And you have to keep the sub available even of less-experimented users. Don't be too hard on yourself :) Clarifying rules is a good idea though. Won't make the slop posts disappear but at least, you'll be able to remove them without any remorse.

TLDR its just that i dont think forums should be considered as knowledge bases, even if you have some bright minds in there, they're hard to find in between the gpt / low effort crap.
I still think dread is a VERY valuable resource, i personally know where to go and how to ask to get the feedback i need, so i don't intend to say that it should be discarded, far from it, especially for darknet news i like going there
but if you're a total opsec noob, i dont think that's the place to learn the ABC, nor the XYZ, that's the main reason why i started writing the opsec bible, i was fed up with having to re-explain everything non-stop

I'm not disagreeing with you lol. I watch Doingfedtime sometimes, I take what he says into consideration. I think he is an overall positive person for the community, but that doesnt mean ill always defend him or say hes right on everything just bc. But the opposite seems true here when it comes to Sam vs the dread mods.

We do our best to have high quality posts and comments, we do lot of cleaning before post approval to keep up the standards. We also try to avoid approving post that has obvious answers where we instead provide links to guides, similar posts, etc. This is to avoid that the broader Dread community needs to see all these repeating posts.
