Any direct message will be saved (possibly) forever on Dread's servers and tied to your account. While I have utmost confidence on the current admin team, nobody knows what tomorrow will be made from. "Private" messages are only by name. Same thing goes on markets. after getting back into the DNMs stuff, I had to relearn it. I was rusty, but after a few minutes and rereading the DNM bible, I remembered everything. It is one of thsoe things that you can't forget too easily after learning, and it is way more beneficial for what it is than not using it.
