We have kicked this idea around a few times. We get people hate the captcha, we get told all the time. Along with a massive Dread update we are also working on new captcha systems that will make life a lot easier.
That captcha wouldn't be half as heinous if the challenge pictures were actually large and legible enough at a typical modern desktop display resolution. WHM has the exact same captcha, but at least it zooms in on mouse over to make it easier. On GNOME, there are handy shortcuts for screen zoom, but a lot of other GUIs don't support the same as conveniently.
Come on folks, not too many people out there still running in 1280x768 in this day and age. This catcha would be fairly painless if it just rendered properly on modern displays.
