It's been my experience that it's nearly impossible to gauge the quality of MDMA by what it looks like. Smaller crystals change the color, about the only thing I really avoid is stripes of impure looking crystals which usually means it hasn't been washed enough

That is the signature of impurities. Pure MDMA does not really have an odor.

It can be and often is high quality while having that anise stink all over it, but it can be low quality and smell like that too.

the colour of the mdma depends on the pre-cursor chemicals used to produce it, but theres other things at play in purity/strength/byproducts so going by colour alone isn't everything
