This is the way. What /u/fohshizzle2 might have been referring too is with OMEMO you can have multiple devices listening.
Actually a lot of XMPP clients trust fingerprints blindly. In group chats as you were referring /u/Paris with participants you don't have in your roster with fingerprints confirmed such functionality would be needed for people to talk to each other. If you have blind trust disabled and don't rely on 3rd party providers like SkyECC such situations wouldn't be possible to happen right out of the box. (as in LE wouldn't be able to add silently new devices)
