you could but you also run the risk of it re routing if they file a address change suddenly

Exactly. Junk mail doesn't get forwarded. But your package surely will if they filled out a Forwarding form.

Got the idea its been going on awhile which means it hasnt been changed and likely wont. Depends on the situation. If it is you, meaning tied to you AND you have already got one package from the same vendor and hes using the same shipping info, then it really would not matter if LEO was to come calling. If it is not tied to you, then it really doesn't matter anyway, but I think packages would make it just fine anyway. There is one important aspect to think over and that is the mindset of the person, regular or otherwise, working that route. To some, there is a difference between the junk/letter/bill mail you are getting in Jon Doe's name, and the priority-flat mail we are generally using for this. That might be the piece of mail that starts the paper process to change it. Meaning the carrier would leave a note about the package information and for you to pick up at post office. Since the name is still on the address, the pack would not simply be returnred to sender.

I was going to add that the good thing about questioning these drop issues, it isnt hard to imagine-up the idea to test them. But funny thing about usps, even tested and good, many variables still exist with each day and package. sometimes its almost a crap shoot. But I have turned up good more than my fair share in that crap shoot!

That last question you ask is going to fall on deaf ears because it was answered, between the lines, in the response before it. But I'm the type that dont really care so he means to pay someone else. Then it is an actual name and drop. And not your neighbor or brother! Like cousin Ted from 2 hrs away you only normally see at xmas.
Or better, a complete new stranger. Pay them accorrding to story about drop use. Truth and Risk=Reward. Too much truth/pay=trouble. Business mail=Business pay.

seems risky since that person could set up a mail-forwarding/address change thing at any time. how long has that person been getting mail there?

Set up a real mail drop, one that is untraceable to you in any way, shape or form. and that way you can control all variables and not worry about things like what i mentioned above.
