Hard coded things in the Tor network. Like number of intro points, descriptor size and whatnot. You do patch your Tor but it doesn't matter because the network will only go so far.

It depends on what the attacker is using, they may use a botnet which would make the attack fairly cheap. They also don't care about hiding their servers or making a mess on the network or risking anything at all. Arche may wait it out I guess because they are a big market if not the biggest, they have the cash and the admin is obviously skilled, after all they weren't down completely. It does eat into the bottom line but I suppose they could wait it out, no idea, they know better. But for a smaller market it would mean the end.

Please don't pay these morons a penny. it will only get worse, then they demand more and more. of course You can horizontally scale. scaling is much cheaper than paying these ass holes "2000 XMR". you can lease many decent dedicated servers with a lot of RAM and CPU cores with fast port speed(1GbPS) each for like 240$ a month, and use them as /endgame fronts to your backend.
protect your backend's onion URL, don't directly give it out to the world. or else they will attack it directly. instead set up at least 20 endgame fronts on separate servers and proxy the traffic to the backend via Tor. you will need servers with fast port speeds for this. then use onion balance, It creates a descriptor with multiple onion end points, which are your front servers hosting end game fronts..
remember: scale and scale.
BTW, I can access the market now with the primary mirror you posted: "4pt4axjgzmm". everything is good so far. You can distribute the load on 4 or even 5 primary Onion URLs, behind each of them can be like 12 endgame fronts. this way they can't take the market down.
