vendors need to stop vending on non xmr only markets so that they will die out because this is getting ridiculous, market admins also need to plan how long they are going to operate before closure.

I'm not saying they have exit scammed or are seized, the market may very well come back up and I hope It does but that doesn't make either of these points invalid, It just kicks the can down the road.

As interesting and enticing XMR is, I think that it won't be the default for quite a while. I've used it only once as I lost quite a bit of value to exchange BTC for it and move it to the markets.

It's a great concept but the exchange rates and trade charges can be pretty prohibitive

In my part of the world, there are a lot of strict KYC laws that pretty much prevent or scare away crypto exchanges from working with XMR and if an exchange ignores the KYC laws they can even get closed down. This makes it difficult or downright impossible to trade cash directly for XMR in a lot of places which leaves crypto to crypto exchanges which get pretty costly.

Frankly with the exchange from btc-xmr being as expensive as it is, I feel like the vendors are in the best position to exchange since they're going to be making larger transactions. Vendors are more likely to be sitting on larger amounts of crypto so it's in their interest to have XMR, even more than it's in a buyer's interest to pay with XMR since he's not likely to sit on a lot of crypto.

Cannedgoods here vendor on Abacus. Just would like to share my experience:

1. I usually withdraw daily on Abacus market. Had my last withdrawal which was around $2-3k on June 29th go through. Those were BTC and XMR withdrawals.
2. I currently have four pending withdrawals from June 30th that have not arrived yet.

Around 10 or more hours ago my access to the market via my private link was blazing fast and I was able to access public links as well. Now, ZERO access and the error code is not a DDoS but rather full market shutdown. That means they are either fully out and one or they are doing maintenance. My theory is that they are either fixing nodes or changing servers hence they require a whole blanket shutdown.

This is not my first rodeo on these things happening and correct me if I am wrong but this has happened to Abacus or other markets from time to time where they are fixing a BTC node issue. It is evident on Sonnycorleone and bytemaster's posts that the XMR withdraws and deposits have already been slowly showing up and now just the BTC node needs to be fixed. Another thing to put in mind.... deposit addresses that were missing means that the market failed to generate BTC/XMR addresses which is most likely a node related problem. Also for those asking about why the status color is changed from green to orange.. I think its obvious that its under maintenance mode?

The fishy thing here is that we lack more updates from other admins and also PGP signed message announcements.

Hard as it may, I am staying positive on this as theres nothing to lose being positive on the situation. I have funds on escrow and most vendors do and we are at risk of losing them. I have much more to lose that most people here crying on the situation.

What I suggest is that if anyone has really concrete news and updates on their "research" about abacus like tracing the BTC transactions feel free to post here. Or maybe someone is good friends with some mods on Abacus they can post here or PM me as well. If there are people who have had deposits or withdrawals show up lately within the last 24 hours please post here as well.

Lets deviate away from the useless FUD for now and focus more on concrete truths.

Within 24 hours yes. My deposit was not showing up June 29th but it showed up yesterday on the 30th. I was able to see a new deposit address and use my funds, which had taken 18 hours to show up. It has not been 24 hours yet for me being down. Only about 18

But there has been communication? Multiple comments and replies from AB Mod confirming they are working on the issue. Why would they go through the hassle of cutting off main links, shutting down your ability to deposit (but maintain your ability to withdraw) and keep priv links open?

Literally makes no sense and this is all just deja vu, last time the site was down for maintenance 90% of people didn't even bother to look if thre were updates from mods. Site came back online and has been working fine until now.

I also wouldn't be surprised if AB paused priv links temporarily to avoid the huge influx of support tickets. Y'all are creating support tickets and then wondering/complaining that their response hasn't been fast enough. And yet mods have been responding to requests whenever they can.

I think it is. Looking at his post history, he kinda comes off as an aloof dick and it looks like Abacus had a period of downtime before where he didn't say shit, either. He also has a habit of not signing his posts.

That's not necessarily a GOOD sign, though. If everyone loses faith in the market because of poor communication and shoddy backend systems that take days to fix, everyone might yank their money out and they shut down all the same. Look at Bohemia, that situation was way more fucked up but the end result was that they had things back up but no one gave a shit anymore and it went under.

I used Abacus in 2023 and had a very negative experience. I found the platform to be unreliable and, in my opinion, not trustworthy. Based on what I went through, I believe users should be cautious and do thorough research before engaging with this marketplace. I personally chose to leave the platform and do not plan to return.

Dear Abarians, this post have some FUD in it

- Withdrawals were processed yesterday as usual, vendors reported getting their withdrawals too. Today withdrawals were processed hours ago and those pending withdrawals will be processed as normal.
- Links not working, it is hard to find a working public link, however if you get a 'New Identity' or a 'New Tor Circuit' eventually you will find a working public link. **once inside make sure to save your private mirror.
- Private links had been working correctly.

The only real information in this post is about the issues with Deposits which we informed that it was being worked on /post/edaa42cb57fb91b0ec38/#c-85b5530d082a52ddd7

Just an update

After being in earlier today and the market functioning 100% normally and being able to deposit/order/etc my private links are no longer working so I assume whatever changes they made fix the issue they are now implementing as permanent changes and having to reboot/refresh the servers.. I expect within a few hours they'll post saying everything is back to normal and maybe little more explaining what happened

Everyone has to remember this isn't a massive team of IT experts... they are running an extremely secretive website which breaks every law known to man When they are repairing something it isn't just about fixing the issue... its ensuring during the process opsec is still maintained.

They can make their priority either fixing the issue or communicating about the issue... I prefer the first and we're not even at 24 hour downtime yet and have seen signs of the issue improving at times so I'm not worried

But not everyone is on the IT team, they have people who will never touch the tech who could be doing PR right now. They don't have to reveal anything. When a site has issues and goes silent it very often means LE. Abacus was usually pretty decent with updates from what I can tell.

I hope that isn't the case of course, but they surely know that's what people will be thinking after the Archetyp situation. I know they have made a couple comments about it, but this is a widespread outage at this point and no announcement post has been made yet.

Personally I will not be returning after this except to release funds to vendors. If they aren't compromised I don't agree with they way they are handling this situation at all.

Reflections about the current situation:

1. Upgrades or bug fixes: Is what we're all hoping and praying for, but given recent events with LEA, it's perhaps the least likely scenario.
2. EXIT Scam: Of the worst case scenarios, the “least bad” would be a loss of funds but at least thousands of users/vendors info wouldn't be in the LEA hands who already have enough evidence with the Archetyp and Incognito information.
3. Seizured by LEA: The most likely and of course, the worst scenario, not only for the info. exposure but also because this fact would be revealing, in a forceful manner that TOR now isn't a safe place and LEA now have a method to penetrate

For me abacus by far is one of the safest and stable DNMs these russian guys know what they are doing, real off-shore servers and non clear-net domains, that is why if the 3 option turns out to be the outcome of this impasse, TOR privacy is in serious trouble.
Now is the time to exercise caution, take advantage of the opportunity to open stores in new DNMs and prepare for the worst.

I noticed there were transient issues on 6/28 towards the end of the day where I was being kicked off and not able to get online for some time, got spooked, hit withdraw on a few hundred of BTC that I was trying to get some Modafinil with, and it hit my wallet 6/29 after ~24 hours. I think they are just overloaded from Archytyp seizure

So, 6 days ago, Safety1st got banned after 4,500 orders, with "a lot of money" in his account (source: first comment in the thread abacus at Darkeye).

On top of that, some deposits have been stuck and not processed for at least 3 days. They were processed manually after a ticket.

Then, about 6 hours ago, there were some unusual/manual movements with round amounts (like 0.2 and 2.2 BTC etc...). If you want to check the transactions yourself:

Things are looking really bad. If it’s not an exit scam, it’s definitely got all the signs of one.

can't believe how bad the timing was for me. got into DNMs around 2 weeks ago and found out it was just after Arch got seized, placed my first order on Abacus a week ago, checked to see if it'd been delivered to find out this happened.
gotta feel bad for the vendors, they can't seem to catch a break at the moment. hoping this does turn out to be a maintenance issue, seems like a 50/50 split on speculation about exit scam or DDOS/maintenance, but being that it's all FUD all we can do is wait I guess.

Still can't get into private or public links. the label for my package was created over a week ago but never in usps possession. I thought it was gonzo for sure, and it felt like dude knew it was gonna happen since he's usually quick about dropping it off. BUT today it updated to actually shipped with an ETA. That's good news because I have like 5 or 6 orders but only 3 are appearing on informed delivery and only 2 of them are moving. Im hoping those two are my big orders because that was make or break money that I and a friend who just put all their faith in me and what Ive told them about Abacus and these vendors and threw all of his money in with me to pool together for a big order. Half an ounce of mdma and 200 Adderall split in two separate orders, DMT, Ketamine, and then 100 green goblin xanax bars the other night that Abacus came back online briefly for like 4 hours and then went down again and has stayed down. I was an idiot for adding money and ordering again so soon but that's just how much trust I had developed for Abacus. There is a megathrrad from 7 months ago just like this situation where Abacus was DDOS attacked and everyone was saying LE seized them or they exit scammed and then they came back updated and better than ever and everyone spreading FUD turned out to be wrong so I truly hope that we are experiencing that again and a lot of signs point to it being another event similar to the last one. There are plenty of bad signs too though but Im still holding on to faith that Im not gonna be broke or in jail in a week or two

I am thinking they are straining under the weight of all the additional traffic generated after the Arch demise. At least that's the optimistic view and not FUD.

ATM I have no deposit address, and none of the mirrors are working for at least 3 hours at a time, then they'll work for maybe an hour and login is possible but the session is usually cut short after a few page visits.

Users with private mirrors though are reporting no issues from what I've read here.

My guess is the separate crypto server is offline or having issues;

Probably taken the website offline to sort issue, when running a server like that you might have issues where it's not getting the latest block (downloading it) hence why transactions aren't showing up as it's not downloading the latest block to show that information, could also be a coinjoin mixer on deposit having problems but I'm more leaning on it's offline or having internet connectivity issues.

I don't believe this is LE or exit scam.

I call it the domino effect. Usually either it's an actual problem and gets fixed. Or admins realize how long a market that just was busted was up they're the new target. Or it's rumors then they turn real becasue FUD can be a real issue and then people panic. Usually things are chaotic after a market is busted or exits a few follow (Alphabay1&2,Empire,Bohemia,Supermarket, Versus etc) it's like crypto prices they trend, Just avoid the chaos if you can do DD with a trusted vendor that's what I would do until things settle. Usually a bad sign though

The ONLY thing we have experienced (as a vendor) is a SLIGHT delay in withdrawals... using the new, updated private mirror we were given, it's been fantastic. You just have to be OCD and double check all your addresses and stuff often :)

*UPDATE* Abacus servers are still live :) We are on now, and have had no downtype, especially with a little effort and URL checking, we are here. Live no our PRIVATE MIRROR. Well if the money issue is related to the downtime issue, I'm sure the access returning will result in funds going through also as my messages are registering.

I'm not sure the likely hood of funds being lost or what retrieving them would look like but I'm sure the deposit was on logs and the site owners work in good faith.
Id recommend researching cases like yours on Dread to prepare for worse case scenario.

I didn't check Dread this morning and didn't realize there was any issues. About 4-5 hours ago I logged in and everythign was fine. I made a deposit and it registered on my acct is the usual amount of time. Placed an order. Then couldn't access a couple of hours later. I think the deposit issues looked like it was yesterday, so I believe my deposit is what you are asking about as I placed it mid morning and it came thru. NOthing suspicous at all. Then I come here and see all this shit.

I havent had any issues and didnt see this thread til this morning I deposited a few grand and leave for an hour and come back and now I can't login via private links, public links, nothing. Also the monero is at 2/10 confirmations even after 6 hours.

I sent 1xmr yesterday did not show up any notification as it's usually do. Then after a few hours I sent another 0.5 XMR nothing again. Later I checked and my second deposit of 0.5XMR it was successfully funded my abacus wallet.
I thought I will wait for a bit longer for the first deposit to appear. Now I cannot reach the abacus at all.
Question is: is any other alternative any other market?

I'm not so sure. Of course you may be right but this seems bad timing to me. They'd get a lot lot lot more money by doing this in the future. Let everyone from Archetyp get set up and settled in, have a lot more orders flowing, then exit if that's the plan. As it is, many vendors haven't finished their bond process or got set up on Abacus yet. The timing doesn't make sense to me if they're after money.

But one thing that does make sense to me and may belong in a separate post:
Feds use their AI ddos to narrow down the servers. They compromise a server. Abacus admin realizes what's happening and DBANs, pulls the plug on everything so they can't get anything else. They transfer all of the crypto out before the feds try to seize it. And best case, will pop back up to provide people their money (lol) or with new servers - or worst case, not do that and just dip. Imo, if this is an exit scam, it's terribly timed or forced to be. Not a planned out matter. I've been around since SR1 so I'm not naive, I think I just tend to give them a lot of benefit-of-the-doubt. Maybe too much, we shall see

Yea there are a few different reasons that could have forced their hand because it does seem last minute. None the less it is an exit scam because I made a withdrawll a full day before. That should have made it to me and the only reason it didnt was because they set the site up to end in an exit scam from the beginning but because their hand was forced they only had a day or so to do it

Mine went through and was a decent amount. Was worried last night but when I woke up Monday morning the funds had confirmed on my account and I placed my order. However I am stressed considering I havent seen anything on my informed delivery like I usually do. And I cant access the site right now because nun of the links r working. I logged into the website through a sketchy/phishing link I found on google. Some of the captcha pages have changed. When i logged in, it logs me in, but its as if I'm a new user on the platform. I have no money, past orders.. To be fair you can login with any username/pw without registering. Most of the links redirect to the home page, besides specific listing/xxx pages. The vendor fee looks like its been upped to $1250 from $300. Sometimes website owners migrate user databases when making a major update so isn't too unusual.

i had no problem entering abacus till like 2days ago but connection timed out warning just keeps po[pin and able to enter take a beer message

i saw someone saying downgrading tor to 14.5.3 works, so i did it on windows, didnt help me at all

Maybe not a planned exit, but they will be priority number 1 after Archtyp.
Also with influx of new users, and genuine DDOs, they may have pulled plug based on profit/risk analysis.
it makes sense. I wouldnt take on this influx and high profile risk - but i would have given 1 week grace for pullout.

Not irrelevant. BTC isn't untracable and transaction fees can top $20 and take forever. Any currency with a blockchain that size is only good for larger tranasactions and investement, not dailt use.

This thread is about Abacus going missing, not about BTC or XMR OpSec.

What kind of wallet or network are you using? I've never had to pay fees anywhere near that high.

Also, I disagree with your last point.
Bitcoin can still be used for daily transactions you just need proper OpSec if you're dealing with sensitive stuff.

You're basically suggesting that some people are smart enough to access the darknet but too lazy to build even basic operational security or understand how online drug purchases actually work? That logic doesn't hold up.

Going XMR-only has never stopped:

Markets from getting busted

Vendors from being taken down

Millions in user funds from ending up in the hands of careless or malicious actors

So no XMR isn’t some silver bullet solution in this context.

And let’s be real: true multi-sig with XMR still isn’t a viable option when it comes to solid, reliable security.

If learning the ins and outs of how to place a successful order were re as simple as how to access a DNM site, there wouldn't be a whole subdread dedicated to helping neophytes with their questions on how to do it. You have to learn cryptocurrencies, cryptology, the postal system, how to navigate phishing attempts and the OPsec to do all that without getting caught.

I brought up crypto because it can be a huge weak point in a buyer's OPsec and using BTC at this point seems like a time consuming, pointless risk. My opinion as "not a crypto expert", but BTC transactions got DPR brought up on the murder for hire plot because they could link the amounts to his wallet (they were in the millions, but thats beside the point). Any currency based on blockchain consensus is built on an ever growing foundation. It's not profitable to mine bitcoin in many places because it costs more than the electricty to run the miners.

If its not the best, fastest, safest option, which is? I can/t name another cryptocurrency that dominates DNM's like xmr. The few cases of busting someone for using monero were because the authorities set up compromised nodes in Japan, a kid in Finland used no opsec, or a when INTELBROKER used BTC instead of XMR once when tricked by the FBI.

I had an issue last week where I logged in after a few months using only links from Daunt, successfully passed an order, and the next day my XMR was gone. I was able to see that a withdrawal had taken place for the whole amount I had on there. I discussed with support who basically say I was phished, which is possible but I only use links from daunt and tor.taxi, both of which I have bookmarked. Anyone had a similar experience? This seems especially fishy now that all this other stuff is happening.

Weird question but can I ask. Has anyone struggled to get comms from vendors they were using on Abacus or Archetyp. There was 2 vendors I was in communication with about various stuff every 2 or 3 days at most (sometimes every day). 2 went randomly radio silent about a week before archetyp went down. Another one that ive known for 5-6 years at least , we were mid comms about a situation (I'm being perpously ambiguous) and then BAM. He goes randomly radio silent 2 days before Abacus has seemed to go down.

It might just be a coincidence or both for good reason, I just wanted to know for sure this isnt a pattern anyone else has experienced.

Question on "protocol" when market seized or exit scam. What do you do in this situation:
-an order is placed and accepted, then marked shipped right before market goes down
-product does ship and ultimately lands but buyer wouldn't be able to finalize
So, buyer paid and got product but vendor couldn't possibly get their money out (no fault of buyer). Is this just the price of doing business or should the buyer throw the vendor at least a few bucks? Buyer and vendor have comms outside the market, and buyer wants to keep using the vendor, so I want to see what's expected.

Appreciate the help for a rookie.

Who knows. HugBunter originally expressed a lot of skeptism earlier today b/c he had not heard from Vito via the other channels (Jabber). But apparently shortly after Vito's post, he did reach out to HB apparenlty a little later and HB removed the 'harsher" skepticism but of course he caveated that he doesn't know for sure, which is understandable.

I dunno myself. I think its a coinflip. It was looking really bad earlier but some hope was restored when Vito made that post. I don't like it wasn't signed though. But honestly, that doesn't mean much anyway. I'm really hoping this is a major bump in the road and that's all and he'll get things up and running. If he was exiting, why would he be communicating? esp since the site is down. There is no need to keep deposits coming in b/c the whole site is down. But of course, it could be LE doing bullshit they do.

The explanation is plausible. I'm sure they have had a huge uptick in traffic and now they are top targets of DDOS'ers, can def believe they are getting ddos'ed. But who the fuck really knows. The only thing I know is that PR was handled very poorly on this. I think a lot could have been done with a simple message much earlier. But then again, its not been that long. I think back to the old days of Agora, Evo, etc and how those markets would have many many days of outages, sometimes longer. And comms were sometimes non-existent. But obviously expectations have changed greatly over the years. I think there is much more expectation to keep things humming all the time and if down, have comms quick and often.

Judging from HugBunter's last few updates, its now leaning towards "legitimate issues with traffic but shockingly incompetent market admins."

Whatever Vito told him, he seems to believe the story that Abacus is working its way back up but his lack of enthusiasm and his statements like "if this was LE, they'd have done this way smoother" still make me worried for Abacus' future. There is no reason not to encrypt your data. Sure maybe LE doesn't care about buyers and you do have some level of deniability - maybe someone else bought the drugs and typed your address in there just to try to get you in trouble. But still. 100% got phished. I did the same on another market searched on the Internet for a link becuz I was a total absolute noob. That resulted in having to go thru withdrawal cuz some twat phished my money. But thru the phished link I contacted admin who gave me the correct link to the website. Phished links work by literally mirroring the website, so will provide you with a BTC wallet address that links directly to the scammers wallet. But those phishing links could actually be run by a rogue person running the actual site. A tax on being an idiot

Yup you got phished. You need to only get your links from Daunt or go here to the market's sub which will have legit links. Every market will also PGP sign the links so you need to know how to verify signatures and that will confirm the link is legit. But first you need to grab the market's PGP key, which you can get from their sub on dread.

Go to the sub /d/DarkNetMarketsNoobs and read the bible there. Ask questions. There are so many different angles scammers use. You fell for one. Most of these phishing sites are proxies to the real thing, so they can look and feel legit. Like you can log in and all. Other phishers will host clones of the market. This is what you fell for - a clone - b/c the market has been down so that means any phishing sites that are using proxies won't work.

You need to learn to set up 2FA on your accounts. That way if your password is compromised, you have that layer of protection. However, it isn't fool proof. A proxy can still get you b/c it will just forward your requests to the actual market and then capture your session. They can then overwrite any deposit addresses with their own. Don't do another thing until you have gone through the bible.

At this point it looks like an exit scam. If you were running Abacus you might as well exit scam because who will want to do business on your website anymore? Might as well take whatever money you can because Abacus is done.

My guess is that Abacus saw what happened to Archetyp, got scared and decided to close shop.

We really just have to wait.
I took a two year break from using markets and only came back last month thinking I 'd have to find the current markets again.
I was happy to see abacus still up and running, got one order delivered and now this. I've maybe got ~1xmr in there.

But this happens! And we shouldn't expect a running commentary of what they're doing and when the site will be up again. For a start it doesn't help - the admin posted a few days ago and that's not good enough. You want daily updates? minute by minute commentary? Well I can imagine a host of reasons why an admin wouldn't do that especially it the disruption is due to anything technical, a hack or update etc.

You're giving them too much credit.

If it was legit, they'd have PGP signed their vague messages. I had 500 in it, so 26,000 users (not to mention I heard much larger numbers in loses like 8k), you are approaching a million pre-Archetyp migration, which likley multiplied that amount by 10,20x.

They are either inept, calculating with the details for opsec, or you are coping sooo hard its sad. I'd happily bet my $500 that that closed up and cashed out since the time was perfect (tons on new customers, likely not a prime target from LEO, and everyone would blame LE.

The sooner you accept it, the better. Be realistic.

220K is more than triple the yearly salary of most wealthy nations. Its enough to afford some of the rarest cars in the world. invested properly, enough to live in the interest it brings in, enough to buy a small house in many cities.
