Nemesis Market has been seized : DarkNetMarkets | Torhoo darknet markets

Edit - now confirmed:
http://bka.de/nemesismarket
http://nemesis555nchzn2dogee6mlc7xxgeeshqirmh3yzn4lo5cnd4s5a4yd.onion

------------------------------------------------------------------------

While it isn't publicly confirmed, I'd like to state I am confident that Nemesis Market was in fact seized. I agreed the post yesterday from the Admin Francis was strange, especially his follow up details or lack of.

It was unclear how he could know specifically that it was Lithuanian Law Enforcement, but this can usually be explained by hosting companies providing some sort of tip off through an email regarding a LE request for information. If there isn't a gag order equivelant in place, this is actually quite common.

He was also very confident of not being identified and that he was in an "untouchable" location, before removing his posts and sending me a message to state his situation has changed and he is now "on the run".

As always, vendors and buyers take whatever precautions you think you may need from the fallout of a market seizure.

Prior to his post he had sent me this signed message I can share for clarity, which checks out as his PGP, I didn't save his post yesterday and there is no way to recover it once he removed it.

I said in the other thread that they would not take over his market without having his identity and people were insistent on that you can have a remote server with no connection to the admin identity.

I just don't think there's a way to be 100% anonymous if a government agency finds a way in.

it's mostly static, with the animated part being a spaceinvaders-esque spaceship shooting a laser beam into the word "NEMESIS" which shortly after explodes, before the .mp4 loops. I wonder if they have a fucking in-house editor-animator for this shit lol

Its not unheard of for media files to contain injected code attempting to exploit vulnerabilities in the media player software that is playing them.

Its fishy to me that they did not just use an animated gif.

Update:

The file does appear to be H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video with metadata claiming to have been created using HandBrake v1.7.3 software.

There are a number of CVEs from 2022 relating to H264 video and CVE-2022-3266 specifically relates to Firefox (which Tor Browser is based on) and resulted in an information leak.

That's enough for me not to be clicking play on that any time soon.

They wouldn't use a 0 day or anything on such a large public website that everyone will see, the vuln could be discovered really quick and someone could report it to Mozilla for a bug bounty. However they might use a known public vulnerability to try to target dumb people who don't update their software
/u/2222222222222

The exploit doesn't have to be delivered to everyone. They could serve the exploit to certain private mirrors. If they're watching certain people closely, they could look for their network (or VPN exit provider) to start using Tor. Then they could serve the exploit during that brief period hoping that they'd not be aware yet as it seems the admin was still free when this one was seized.
/u/[deleted]

CVE-2022-3266 , Really ? Are you sure bro ?

Check which versions of Tor browser are affected by this exploit , now check your tor browser ( unless your'are not trying to update your Os anymore from 2022 )

Euros are lazy to unpatch exploits , thats possible for Bug hunters which they are reporting directly for Bug bounty programs .

What...? No, no it's not.

Assuming the CVE only pertained to leaking information, then you'd be most likely correct. However, what if it was an RCE CVE instead? If you get RCE'd then your entire system can be compromised at the hardware level regardless of operating system.

Never click on shit you don't need.

Yes a vendor on a very large market on telegram with the shittiest opsec ever got busted. Large buyers are at risk but the market instead suppresses all the information and acted like he just exit scammed. Obviously to avoid liability for vetting someone that sloppy. But all that to save face at the risk of customers needing legitimate confirmed information they could use to try and save themselves from future trouble.

This guy at least was like "bro the fuckin house is on fire!!! get the fuck outside!" and dipped. Mad props. But wtf! lol

Always sucks to see a takedown.
I understand that Nemesis was banned on Dread because its admin was an supposedly "verified scam admin" from an old exit-scam market, well, it seems that this wasn't so true as Nemesis was easily confiscated by LE and surely an experienced admin wouldn't have had this happen to him, it would be good to know the real reason why Dread banned Nemesis and thus stop all the hypotheses that are circulating about it.
/u/HugBunter 📢 A

It wasn't just the claims of him being a former exit scam admin, but running servers the same way and never learning from it would have the same outcome for anyone inexperienced with it

/u/mahesh

the main thing that dosent add up , vendors lost thousands of dollars , millions missing and francis claims he lost all the money and LE claims only 200k or 100k usd thats penny , maybe servers were placed strategically so that they can be caught easily and money can be taken by him without tarnishing nemesis reputation so that he can return and do his jig again claiming it wasnt his fault , FRancis is no stupid guy , thats for sure
/u/HugBunter 📢 A

It doesn't really work like that, he could have a lot of coin in cold storage which is true, but no one is allowing their market to be seized to skim cold storage funds.
/u/Kwik-go

You sure about that? In it's simplistic form, instead of going out like incognito and threatening everyone? To setup things for ''seizure'' and claim it wasn't the admins that exit scammed anyone. Blame LE! They took your coin! When in fact unless someone pulls the actual police reports, maybe it was them. Seems far fetched and genius at the same time. Not impossible. Especially with the history.....
/u/HugBunter 📢 A

Ah yeah lets just hand LE some money and all the logs on the admin just to say that they didn't exit scam. OR disable withdrawals and make a hell of a lot more. I agree its possible, I don't believe it is the case though.

So in what scenario should an average buyer be worried? Are you safe if you encrypted Info on your own and used XMR?

What if you used the sites Auto-Encrypt does that not fully encrypt messages with the vendors PGP?
/u/C6TZRuSqpF
2 points
Never use Auto-Encrypt, you never know what the back-end of the server stores. If the police had 2 months of access to the server they probably have stored the plain-text messages of this "Auto-Encrypt" feature.
/u/2222222222222

Would be pretty trivial to do, yeah. There's mitm proxies that can be placed upstream of the onion host and the POST bodies of those forms could be logged. Even if the onion resolved directly to the same machine as the one running the web servers, if the private key is there the traffic can be transparently unwrapped and logged in-flight.

That is demonstrably false. BMR decided to close and put a portal online where both vendors and buyers could retrieve their funds.

Tormarket went on a (probably indefinite) hiatus and did the same.

Started that way and then staff started to lock vendors out and hold their crypto hostage and forcing them to give up their withdrawal pin. SpeedStepper was aware, if not involved. He then closed it early, launched SamSara market and then just outright exit scammed with that because it didn't become instantly as popular as Dream, as he had imagined. The whole idea of all of this was to try and get the DoS attacker to target someone else, which didn't work. Only a handful of vendors were able to get their coin out.

Nemesis had a decent size, not following basics of security on his infrastructure leading to his market being seized, meaning an easy raise for bka agents behind this task.

you have a bigger ego than Francis, unstable looking at your past decision making and who knows what were you talking about with Sudo that LE now have access to.
Everyone is unstable besides you? Why you only talk shit about every single market with your account?
Sudo and I never were friends and even if we would be best friends when did he got busted again and why does it take so much time till the BKA Hessen finally does their duty (which I as a German paid for with my taxes), I wait for so long that the police finally kicks in my door and handcuffs me, freeing me from this hell where I have to read your comments online.

Update: It now loads and redirects to www.bka.de/SharedDocs/Kurzmeldungen/DE/Kurzmeldungen/240321_Nemesis_Market.html
I have a question? when LE seized this market , they have acces on the full market?
/u/Phreak

You should assume that anything you input without PGP encrypting it on your own PC is now in the hands of law enforcement.
so , LE have all acces to nemesis ,including crypto TX id? ALL?
/u/Phreak
1 points
Well, its possible the server is encrypted and they cant get into it.
Its also possible that it was not encrypted, or a console was logged in, and all the data is available.

We cant know for sure but its better to assume they do indeed have the TXIDs as thats the higher risk.

If you only used XMR and never sent direct from KYC exchange to market then I dont think you should worry about TXIDs.

Edit: It would seem the authorities claim they have access to the cryptocurrency /post/09c5535d05db7298a3f9/#c-12b3e005b3978b0eb4

If there is a seizure banner, they have the onion private key. Francis already confirmed they took the coin, so they have everything.
They claim they only seized crypto worth 90.000€
They probably seized 90K, which represents working capital for the escrows.

That's a good point /u/HugBunter.

If it was just a front server then they could put up the seizure banner without access to the actual user data, but given they have the coin as well I'm sure they have it all.
At this level, I don't understand how they manage to have access to everything? nothing is encrypted?

There's no possible security that allows encryption, like veracrypt or something...

If the machine is running then there's relatively little to be done, especially with modern hypervisors and virtual servers. It's not unheard of to dump the memory of the running computer from the physical memory either, though the difficulty of this depends on how much latitude LEOs have to work within.

There's absolutely mitigations that can be used for protecting the remote server even if physically compromised, but it's better to spend time on good opsec and preventing the server being physically located.

That's a bad hit. Being on the run, is only going to add to the issues he/she faces. My advice would be to get a good lawyer, get your affairs in order, and bite that bullet.
I speak from experience, as I was a felon on the run for 15 years.
That said, it always sucks to see someone else in that kind of legal shit.
I don't know anything about him personally, but I think the war on drugs in general is nonsense.

The war on drugs Is retarded. I think they're in too deep to stop it though. The propaganda is ingrained in society, it wasted a lot of money, but it helps keep the prisons full and court system flowing. Plus just like the CIA did in the post I'm sure the government is still bringing in plenty of drugs.

I wish average people would realize the war on drugs is what makes these cartels and shit rich and powerful and it also causes more harmful product to flood the streets. Why humans always have to make shit difficult.

Very true, and the prison industrial complex, and the anti-drug cartels of LE would also not exist.
There would be a considerable decline in incarceration rates in America. At one point 70%+ of all federal inmates were there for drug related 'crimes' (that typically had no victim listed).
Prohibition empowers criminal organizations, and makes it much more lucrative to be involved in the drug trade.
Prohibition encourages, in an economic way the participation in illegal acts with money as the reward.
I completely agree with you that this community wouldn't exist.

Illegal Darknet Marketplace "Nemesis Market" Shut Down

Date:March 21, 2024

The darknet marketplace "Nemesis Market" offered narcotics, fraudulently obtained data (e.g. online banking data, credit card details), forged documents and various cybercrime services such as ransomware, phishing or DDoS attacks.
In our press release you can read more about the police measures, in which law enforcement agencies from the USA and Lithuania also participated.

Found this article apnews.com/article/germany-lithuania-cybercrime-marketplace-nemesis-market-shutdown-d7f0abb8dc581e126d1aa415a0c8f06b
BERLIN (AP) — German authorities said Thursday they have taken down a major online marketplace for drugs, cybercrime services and fraudulently obtained credit card data.

Investigators seized the Nemesis Market platform’s server infrastructure in Germany and Lithuania on Wednesday, as well as cryptocurrency worth 94,000 euros ($102,000), Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office said in a joint statement with Frankfurt prosecutors.

The seizure followed an investigation in cooperation with the FBI, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, the statement said.

The platform was active on the darknet, a part of the internet accessible only through specialized tools that provide more anonymity. It was founded in 2021 and had more than 150,000 user accounts and over 1,100 seller accounts worldwide, nearly 20% of the latter in Germany, according to German authorities.

The wares it offered included drugs, fraudulently obtained data and goods, and cybercrime services including ransomware, phishing and distributed denial-of-service, or DDoS, attacks.

The data from this week’s seizures will be the basis for further investigations against sellers and users who used the platform, German authorities said.

Hey can someone please explain to me how they would have seized he wallets?

Im not going to tag you because you must get so many tags every day but hopeully you do see this and can drop some info.. The credentials have to be stored in cleartext correct (only speaking from my little bit of Monero experience)?? So they seize the server and the wallet details would have been obtained from the deamon or rpc config file...?? sorry i sound so dumb but, basically this is what would have happened (yes/no)

please no one give me a noob award ):
/u/HugBunter 📢 A

They could have either got the credentials from the market server, or his Bitcoin or Litecoin node was de-anonymized, if they were hosted inside the same server as the market itself, that could have been the downfall for the entire platform.

Well, once again I'm glad I'm wrong and this was indeed a seizure rather than an exit, mates.

Hmm... Crow doesn't taste all that bad when broiled. ;)

I may or may have a friend that had placed one small order (their very first) there that was fulfilled a couple of days before the seizure. The way they found out was that right before they tried to log in to complete the escrow transaction/review they saw the news. They used reputable vendor PGP, XMR, and Javascript disabled. What exactly would they have? They are now on Arch with brand new details and a brand new Proton email - their concern is what to expect if they now place a 2nd order with another market and vendor? Does LE have details from the one small order placed on Nemesis - They also had like $65 in XMR sitting in their Nemesis wallet - that's certainly gone. Is their address burned and should no longer be used? Do they need a new XMR Wallet? It would seem that LE are after the vendors and Francis - but what about my friend as a small fry buyer?

To avoid possibly divulging you private keys you can use a password manager like keepassxc to create a private key so long and complex that if for whatever reason you are separated from your hard drive then there would be no way to force you to cooperate. Now this is all dependent on your ability to implement full disk encryption and the power of your adversary. Nation states and intel agencies are probably the only adversaries able to crack your hard drives but that would require physical device access most probably.

Wishing him all the best.

Remember folks, You cant divulge your passwords and secrets under duress if you cant remember them off hand.

HAHAHAHAHAHAA

So most of ya'll might not know me, but I got scammed from the Nemesis market like 6 months ago and paid $10k to a hacker to find the vendor, which is when we discovered the market admins were working together with some vendors and selectively scamming people, then ending disputes in the vendor's favor.

I have had an open chat with Francis through Telegram since then, and he just reached out to me three days ago telling me the market was seized, LE got a lot of their vendors, and he was on the run but had a lot of gear,, and wanted to know if he could ship me some on a deal price for $10k (I'm a crypto millionaire and he's aware of that).

Fuck scammers, they got what they deserved.

Also, "Francis" is not one person, it's ran by several, which is why it seems like "Francis" has multiple personalities.

Good riddance.

Only good part about that site was the Captchas.

Yes, add /u/vendorname after the .onion in the dread url. If that doesn't work use the dread search (magnifying glass icon top of page next to your user name or /search/?q=).

Next go to /d/superlist and check a few of those markets or browse their market sub for vendor name mentions. There is a vendor relocation megathread on this sub that may have info on your vendor.
