What an eventful few days! Hope you didn't miss us too much

A DDOS attacks just caused the dread guard nodes to cry bloody murder. I'm waiting for more servers to be accepted as guards into the tor network but until that moment happens we are running on a mirror system. Latency will be higher and it will be a bit unstable (with occasional 502s) but we will go back to the faster low latency cluster fronts once more guards are available for them.

All ads (and premium memberships) will be pushed back a few days. Think of it like a time skip where these past couple days didn't happen. If any ads did expire please let me know and I'll get it sorted out. As always no advertiser will pay for our downtime.

The i2p cluster will be getting a stability improvement in the coming days to make the tunnel connections, I hope, a little more stable.

We are not going anywhere.

I am so spoiled having regular dependable access to Dread that is was a real shock to my system to not have it available. I can't be spending my days on the buttsharpies subreddit.

How long is this caution to apply?
It's been almost a week now and I've made it on ASAP every day for the past 6 days.
Yet I have 2 tickets pending about 2 disputes, both of which the vendors have not responded to at all in 3 days on one and 5 days on the other. But I see the vendors have been coming online.

Can you provide any technical details on this attack? Is it a new method? Simple volumetric attacks on guards? More insight could help pool some knowledge together to strategize.

Wow. Its amazing how naked you feel without Dread. I always log in before going to the markets to make sure there are no announcements of weird happenings with my markets or vendors. Without Dread, I felt completely in the dark. Seriously, if it were a government doing the DDOSing, I'd understand. But if its just someone trying to blackmail - what a black souled person that is. Just a horrible excuse for pond scum. A non-human masquerading as a person.

Why after all these years is DDOS so hard to crack here on Tor? The human verification schemes are so creative and involved, yet the servers still get hammered by these blackmailers and government entities. Is there a place here on Dread focused on the tech to fight this? I am under the impression that your human verification can be the best ever but can''t the DOSer just hammer the server that the verification runs on? Anyhow, if there is a place where I can read up on this here or anywhere let me know... I find it pretty interesting.

Yes it's like a sniping attack. But the design of the dread cluster prevents the core fronts from ever connecting to a system I don't already control or monitor. Just a problem when they get overloaded.

hey guys im a noob in cybersecurity but my idea would be to have a different backup server with few unknown onions and when the DDOS hits and in the midtime the attack is mitigated it you use the back up server and you somehow publish the new unknow onions . well i do not know if that possible like having two computers(but hackers dont know you have a back up plan ahead) with the same info if one crashes you use the other one in the meanwhile. if not possible im sorry im pretty sure is hard enough all what you guys do. peace and appreciate your hard work in this field. just knowing all these skills is a bless that just few bring to this world
