If you don't use VPN, you give full trust to your Internet providers and they are 100% keeping logs and tracking your activities anyway. They can't operate internet company if they are not doing it and they will snitch on you as soon as feds ask them to even without a warrant.

VPN providers almost certainly also keep logs for you, but at least you add one additional layer, who knows maybe you are using the vpn provider who is truth to their world... at least there is this slim chance... unlike your Internet provider who 100% keep logs for you no matter what - by law.

I say people should stop dictating and explaining what is good or bad: with or without vpn. If you want VPN use vpn if you don't want don't use it. You don't improve or harm your opsec in both cases. VPN doesn't interfere in your tor circuits anyway and it can't read your tor traffic, just as the ISP can't.
