In this industry you can't really brag about your wealth. Which very much means your power and respect from that wealth is greatly limited within the bubble that you made it in.
As I said publicly before, I personally don't need money from dread. In the dot com bubble I sold my company and have been living off the proceeds and investments I've made afterwards. This is one of the reasons why some market admins and vendors get quite upset when they can't bribe their way to get special treatment. I'm not here to make money to everyone's surprise. If I wanted to make money I would just take a week of my time, make a game changing market, wait a year, and retire with millions in crypto. Everyone with a brain knows that. A lot of the speculation, mostly from rejected market admins, come from that thought. But I don't. Why? Because I don't need to.
If you aspire to be like me, don't. It is a sad lonely life. You sit on the computer all day and can't talk to anyone about what you do. There are many lies and stresses you need to handle daily to just keep it up. As time goes on it gets easier (more so when you use an OS like Qubes) but there is always thoughts that you are going to make a mistake and that will be your downfall.
Unlike a regular industry where if you hit it big you get to do everything you could possibly want. Success in this field is just living a normal life where nobody knows really what you do. Money can come if you have the skills and reputation but that isn't foolproof. You may work years without ever getting paid. If you don't have the passion for what you do, you simply won't ever make it. There is a level of obsession good admins have that most people don't see. They demand for the best out of both themselves and those around them. Anything that doesn't meet their high standards will be cut. Mercilessly.
I take nothing from Dread's wallet. This is mainly because I don't need to but also because there are risks involved with doing that I'm not comfortable with. Of course I can never confirm that, and you don't know anything that I say about myself is truthful, but just try to think of the checks and balances. Does it make more sense to be in the pocket of one person or to be funded by many?
You're the boss Paris. It may feel lonely but don't forget that your words and actions reverberate in the minds of thousands of humans across thousands of kilometers every day. To make things better, a majority of us probably hold you in the high regard you deserve. As far as I'm concerned, in offering and maintaining as important a resource as dread has become for individual liberties, you guys seem an awful lot like the weltgeists of the new enlightenment, whatever that means. But if there is such a thing as karma, and it's adapted to the extremely distributed world of 21st century tech, you're probably doing great bank on that front as well! Keep it up <3
It isnt exactly lonely from my perspective, but from yours it may.
You get to talk to people over dread, from what i've seen, dread is a great community.
but the irl perspective, I understand why you cannot tell people, I've been in things where I wasnt allowed to tell people whatsoever.
I applaud you for your words of wisdom, and your smart thinking.
"There are many lies and stresses you need to handle daily to just keep it up." I can relate to that. It's not easy. I have lived with a construct of lies and stresses for years, the effects are the same. Always trying to 'whitewash' the circumstances and just be resistent and thinking this is the only path. Can make one feel like living on a desert island, an island threatened by erosions, never sure for how long it will stay a habitable place.
One can handle the stress on another level when it's connected to such a great passion. The passion is stronger than any bad circumstances, unless someone else is controlling ones life more than it ever should be. I hope you protect your soul and your freedom.
All 3 must be earned. I understand that their riches came from monopolizing the market for miniature luminous piglets. Everyone just loves those little glowing squeakers.
Have you read a science fiction short story similar to this? Can't remember the name right now, but was similar to what you just said. They called them dream pigs or something like that.
well they may not be rich rich, but they certainly have the brains for doing complex projects so I assume they work hard perfect their craft and get paid handsomely.
i mean a dev for google and the like easily makes 100k + a year
