When i make a pgp key it seems like it only makes the private key. How do i get a public key to go with it.

Select your key and Control+C it and paste the public key into text editor.

it only encrypts and signs and certifys. it also says its a private pgp key and I don't see any public key

Control+C should copy your PublicKey so that you can paste it wherever you want.
