ICANN deciding to take down a website does not mean the service is compromised. It just means it is inaccessible through the clearweb for the time being. In Secmail's case since the onion went offline a few days later they may have decided to just shut the service down entirely. Again this does not mean they were compromised they could have decided that it was no longer worth the trouble. Similar to the way markets will exit scam if they think they are becoming too big of a target.
Maybe they were actually compromised but there is no evidence of that yet.
This is why I believe they just decided to call it quits. It is a clear sign that the target is on their back.
It is still good to warn people but as of right now you could not connect to Secmail if you tried. If they mysteriously come back online in a few weeks with no explanation for the downtime then yes raise that alarm.
