Some lady who writes about the Dark Web called Dread a "trash onion site" on Twitter!!! : Dread | Torhoo darknet markets

Self-proclaimed "dark web journalist," @EileenOrmsby tweeted out a screenshot of https://torhoo.cc/go.php?u=TDNVdlNIVm5RblZ1ZEdWeQ==#'s GP takedown a couple weeks ago, describing it as "when two trash onion sites go to war"

http://archivecaslytosk.onion/N0PXQ

First off, how dare her?

Dread's userbase may be 90% brain-dead degenerates and remorseless identity thieves, but trash? Trash!? I mean, come on. If GP is trash, then we're at least junk or something.

Scrolling through her twitter, it looks like she's done some decent reporting on DNM stuff, actually. I think I read an article by her back when "What the heck is the dark web?" articles were all the rage and being surpised at how informative it was. Looks like she's written a couple books on the topic.

On second thought, maybe we are trash.

Alright, guys, I'm locking this thread. Come on, people!

The amount of harassment going on in the comments here is unbelievable. Everyone is entitled to their opinion (even in you don't like it), as long as it doesn't hurt anyone and/or make me too upset, because in that case, fuck your freedom of speech, you meanies.

There is no need to freak out. You see Vice crying and spewing death threats every time we say something mean about them? Chill out.

I've actually read portions of Ms Ormsby's book, it's fairly decent. At the very least, we can say she's not one of those people who go full retard and claim shit without knowing anything about it.

Thread locked, and please cool it with the death threats, that's what kind of tipped the glass and made me lock this thing. Thank you very much, peoples.

Since my fellow dread staff that chimed in do not know Eileen Ormsby very well here is my input. This is as someone who has talked with her many times on many different occasions. She is the most popular darknet Journalist and has a few awesome books she wrote and I encourage you all to check them out The last one Darkest Web is quiet good.

Regardless she spoke to me and told me the reason she does not like Dread is the same reason she does not like reddit's /r/darknetmarkets it is full of to much banter, meaningless conversation and more. I understand her point and I really do. If you go to the hub or TMG it's not reddit styled so a thread even if 2 months old can be bumped to the to and conversation can continue while in a reddit themed system it is lost into the abyss. Her other complaint was about other staff members and it wasn't really anything negative. While on the other hand you have hub and tmg staff members that for the most part have been around since SR. I remember using Open Vendor Database which was pre-silkroad and some of these guys have the same monikers. You got to give dread time to age. Also it doesn't help that there is a thread on the garden about how GP is supposedly dread causing drama and the hack was a publicity stunt. But the fact of the matter is the reasons she told me she doesn't like it more so does with the setup since it's reddit themed and not a classic message board and that is just how the reddit style is it's not a message board it was made for news originally. The other is the userbase which I mean I would say we have a more fun userbase but that is to each their own.

Seriously?
I prefer to read narcos conspiracy theories instead of her books, at least narcos shit is entertaining to some point. Half of what she writes is public knowledge and the other half she is pretty much talking about herself all the time. She definitely loves to read herself and so do you - maybe that's why you and her wrote on certain occasions? A little circle-queefing?
/u/Homoglyph Shit

Yes she writes about thing that are public knowledge. Who wants to read a book about made up shit on the darknet like assassin ninjas for hire... No she reported on real things visited people in prison and put it all together nicely for the general person. Also she does not talk about her self that much she talks about her self a modest amount. I flipped open the book to a random page which ended up being page 74. The only talking about her self is the fact that "the 40-minute wait was nerve-wracking. I hadn't thought of what I was going to say to him and had no idea what to expect." All of her thoughts on that page are things that went through her head during that 40 minute wait. Is that her talking about herself? No it's not. it's the story of what happened. She discussed conversations and that part I landed on was the visit to Bangok's Klong Prem Central Prison. You have to remember this is a book. It's a story of some of the biggest event on the darknet and her journalism tracking down these people and meeting them and so on. She wrote to me because I had a lot of information on a subject and I was willing to share some info that I deemed okay since it was about to make it's way publicly or to other entities anyways.

Also I have to ask but why.
Do you type like your typing.

nice opinion but not mine.
I think she wrote some really boring books about stuff you already know if you've been here long enough and I honestly have to admit I pirated them. can't open any randomly cuz they are long gone from my HD. not even in the trash where they belong.
you prefer that writing style?
I like it.
easier to read.

Well pretend you were not on the darknet. Then it would be interesting no? I do like the one about the cp ring I looked that dude up he is a asshole.

Um it depends. I liked it more when all your lines were more so even :)
It should be back soon.... https://torhoo.cc/go.php?u=TDNVdlNIVm5RblZ1ZEdWeQ==# didn't like me changing two peoples flair's hence my current flair.

Would you like to write a book about the darknet right here? What should we name it.
/u/DiscordianSociety

Its not complete bullshit but far from a good read.
And she is just so damn unpleasant to read.
Well If I wouldn't be on the darknet it would probably mean I don't care about it at all and that would probably mean I would rather grab harry bloody potter than some random self proclaimed darknet journalists book.
Not even considering the hundreds of even shittier books about the darknet.
All she writes is stuff you can investigate yourself fairly easy and without having her feelings and personal opinions jumping at you on every second line.
Most people reading her books are likely people who are already in the loop I'd guess and for them (for me at least) it's just another sensationalist trying to make some bucks with the all-so-mysterious darknet.
I don't know. Do people really care about the darknet if they are not part of it? I have no idea.
Is she really part of it?
And that's my point: if she never bought or sold anything on a DNM she is not a part of the darknet and therefor she shouldn't write a bloody book about the darknet in the first place.
Nobody likes to read a book about the mafia from a guy who hasn't been part of the mafia or at least part of the bloody cops hunting them down. know what I mean?
I would read a book written by DPR for example. And I would pay for it;)

If I would write a book about anything I would probably call it "Shitapples don't fall far from Shittrees" or "Principia Oscura: How I found the Darknet and what I did with it when we were intimate"
I believe I would be a really bad author though.
How would you call it?

Well I mean netflix is doing a story on ShineyFlakes so I guess there is interest.

Is she part of it? I mean she has been around for a very long time and is an active person in the community. Just because she isn't a vendor doesn't make her a part. Vendor_BBMC for example is a part but I don't even know of that guy having sales but was a huge part of the community. Maybe she has and hasn't told us though?

Yeah but the mafia is a bit different. You can't really hang out with them as you can with some of the vendors and market staff as you could them unless you were pretty much a made man.

I am not much of a writer but a script for a movie has some potential following a few vendors that intertwine or something.

But if I had to make a darknet book it would probably be something that makes it a bit comical as there have been some monumental things that have happened that were down right funny on the darknet and also were exit scams. My 2 cents is struggling to think of a title :(

ShinyFlakes... everybody told him "don't go clearnet" but of course he did and yeah you know.
I like netflix but sometimes they have terrible ideas.
Out of all the potential vendors/market admins they really picked the living proof of failed opsec.
I would love to see a movie about the hansa admins though.

But if I had to make a darknet book it would probably be something that makes it a bit comical as there have been some monumental things that have happened that were down right funny on the darknet and also were exit scams.

yes totally! I guess we can agree on that one.

I think she talks about her self enough to make the story interesting. Don't forget many people are not DNM literate. On-top of that she kind of needs to talk about her self when talking about the difficulty tracking some people down.

The Darkest Web is probably my favorite (her last book) that and the story of Daisy's Destruction was quiet good I mean it's sick but she did a good job telling the story over what you will piece together from googling new stories. I just like how it's actual investigative journalism and not that Vice bullshit that they get wrong even when the facts are in-front of them. Like she legit went to that prison in bum fuck no where. That and honestly for the $30 at least it goes to one of our darknet friends.

it was the SR2 forum that was the most insane. One of the biggest days in DN history (after the actual seizure of SR1 and SR2 and the arrest of DPR) was when the entire cold storage was stolen right out of SR2.

DPR made a post on the forums and the discussion went on for over 100 pages. Everyone either really believed they were scamming or defended them wholeheartedly. In the end the SR2 team took no transaction fee profits for 8 months and paid back every single person that lost money in the hack.

During those times there were tons of announcements that went on for over 100 pages.

Dread is not an activist or a journalist website. Most peope here are looking to buy drugs online for seling them or for personal use. If you are not interested in buying or selling drugs online I can totally see how dread seems boring. A bunch of posts are filled with dealer lingo, inside jokes, and taunts to the federal agents that are always here lurking. I love it but if I was an actua "journalist" well yeah, Id be like what the fuck is this place? We get used to the bartard posts and the long ass novels people on meth/speed write and we see the humor in it because were in this bullshit but from the outside looking it, we are a madhouse lol.

Dread is a site of drug users and sellers. She isnt interested in doing either of those things so naturally she doesent like dread.
/u/titan-xmpp

Not to "trash" on Dread but my personal input is that it did show up at very convenient time just as /r/darknetmarkets was deleted. I'd say coincident timings are for the naive, take what you want from this comment. There have been some questionable incidents with restricting, removing and banning people when it came to certain services and vendors hence why it isn't as free in terms of freedom of speech as to say reddit was.

Either way both reddit and Dread are heavily watched and juiced by LE for easily accessable public information it doesn't matter if it is controlled by them, end result is clear. Might as well have all these discussions on hidden site than clearnet. Any site can be trashed if you define trash, all according to world views, morals etc, that doesn't mean either point of view is true though they all may have some validity in them.

I understand many people/fanboys will be butthurt from this comment but do know this is my personal opinion which has been based on actual facts which I've accounted for in the past. Or maybe too paranoid, decide for yourself :-)
