Interesting concept in chess-focused communities, but chess has always seemed so trivial to me when there's much better, useful, and profitable ways to spend brain power on other than saying, "I can can beat you at chess; my score is higher"

Never saw the point in mastering it, just a game unless you're using it on a literal, global scale

Please tell me. Why would you assume that all intelligent people even learned the rules of the game? (Nevermind play it)! Practice makes perfect. Like most things - what you focus your attention on and practice you become better at. That does not make you more intelligent. Your post looks like ragebait or you were attempting irony/humour. I dunno. I'm actually very high at the moment.
Nah, its nothing like that, I just really enjoy chess even if im not good at it, sort of like a hobby for me. As for the "Intellectually challenged" i meant it in a way where its a challenge for the mind, as a good thing. Sorry if it came out as irritating.

Also... Intellectually challenged has a very specific meaning. Your original post did not mean it was challenging for the mind. Talking to certain people - now that's intellectually challenging because my mind can't deal with stupidity. (Everything I say is in jest so please don't take offense - unless you really want to).
Gonna be completely honest, i shouldnt really have used that sentence as i had thought the meaning was completely different(completely on me). Understand my mistake, sorry.

I really respect your honest and ability to own your 'shit' (for want of a better word). So many people (probably me too) are unable to accept that they make mistakes. I think owning our mistakes openly is a sign of strength.

Not at all irritating. I enjoy the game too however I would like to understand your suggestion a little better. How would posting your 'score' of one particular game indicate anything other than your skill at that particular game? How do you 'judge' people who never played the game yet achieve fantastic things in life? I would really appreciate an explaination of your thought process.
I sort of believe that any man, whether he is succesful or not, can be intelligent. As with being intelligent i havent met a person who is intelligent, overall aware of the world whilst not playing chess on atleast an intermediate level. Thats just my experience, nothing to do with success just overall awareness.

Fair enough. What exactly is success? In my opinion it's someone who can solve problems and enjoy life without causing misery for others. I am guessing from your last comment that you haven't met many people or travelled much. I am also guessing you are very young or English is not your first language? I'm just trying to understand you here.
For me success is less about problem solving but more as a awareness and sort of global knowledge, economics, politics. As for enjoying life i completely agree that you can enjoy life without any money, not have any debts, stress and other factors. Not being in debt to someone is also a big thing for me i would say - sort of not causing misery for others.
Ive travelled quite a bit i would say, but mainly i just visit countries ive already been to.
Correct, English is not my main language, i understand it but writing is my weak point, as you would have guessed.

When I said travelled - I should have been more specific. I didn't mean get a flight to the same few places frequently. I meant go to many countries and stay with the local and learn about them. You will soon find very intelligent people who never even heard of chess. Maybe you are a teenager?
I understood what u meant, thats why i explained what i had by travelling. I understand theres a great amount of intelligent people who havent played chess.Just talking about the average man who has peace, will most likely have played chess.

In which countries? If you think about all men in all countries and calculate the average - where does that leave you? Now for my next question. Why did you call yourself smartindividualontheweb? Don't you find it funny how the average person considers themselves to be smart? Especially smarter than others. Same with drivers. The majority belive they are better than the average. Humans are so delusional.
I do know that, there have been multiple studies about our self image. Calculating average based on what exactly?
Honestly this was just a random name, as i dont really see any point of thinking of a sort of a nickname, potentially connecting myself.

I admit I was just being an asshole and provoking you. I am probably lacking something when I feel the need to do that. I'm just very curious by nature.

U can admit your mistakes aswell. :)

I suppose being an asshole and needing to be "right' about things comes from an insecurity. Not good enough. Not smart enough so we go online and try to convice ourselves (me) otherwise. You were right to point that out to me in the kindest way possible. So I need to be more considerate and not an asshole. Nobody benefits from assholes. (I can't help this but obviously real assholes are vital). My behavior. I hope you have a good evening too and once again thank you for your patience and your intelligence. You got me to look at myself with your kindness strategy. Well that's how I see it. Maybe I'm mistaken :)

It's just a game at the end of the day. The professionals play using the basal ganglia part of the brain. It is no longer taking effort to think ahead. They have played so many games that it works more on 'instinct' and that's why it really has nothing to do with intelligence. For me intelligence is the ability to solve problems quickly because every single person in this world has endless problems. That is basically what life is. I think you are very young when you don't think this.
Who knew i could learn something about anatomy on Dread :)
I think that everyones viewing point can be different on these theoretical questions.
U are really trying to understand me, who i am. I appreciate it but kind of annoying.

Ok. I didn't mean to challenge your intelligence. I will not continue after I reply to your last comment.
Uncalled for but alright, i mean i liked the discussion u just asked me like 3 times "how old are you?".
Enjoy your evening.

I was just testing to see what you would give away. Didn't mean anything by it. Just one more question though. What do you think about the game 'Go'?
All i know is that its a board game. How to play it - i have no idea.

It's much more sophisticated that chess and more widely played in china at least. Much of AI was developed using it.

So being knowledgeable is success. That was my point. We all have different meanings when it comes to success. We usually compate ourselves to our peers and not others outside our 'group'. For some people being successful means getting to a hundred years old whilst taking a lot of drugs and going online in your underwear.
Swear ive read this reply somewhere literally sounds like a deja vu.

Actually your English is excellent. It is your punctuation that needs attention. You are probably in your 20s and used to texting. Or you are an excellent con man who is putting on a great performance.
Never paid attention to punctuation. English just came naturally to me funny enough, i never even studied it or anything.

just thought to add the comma here "English just came naturally to me funny enough, i never even studied it or anything" should be a semicolon ; to seperate 2 sentences that can stand alone- kind of a fancier punctuation that most english speakers probably don't even know lol

It's odd to go away and come back under a different name, and then confirm your connection with the old username.
