⚠️H.R. 1865⚠️, it ammends section 230 of the telecommunications act of 1996; purportedly it would only allow LE to pursue sex traffickers. LE would never dream of overstepping bounds like that of course.
What's ironic is that Backpage, the atrocities of backpage; were cited as they reason this bill needed to be passed. They just couldnt get the Backpage guy they said. as He's sitting in a jailcell.
The Justice Dept. also sent a letter to Congress urging them not to pass this Bill, specifically because it would drive more kidfuckers toward the Dark Web.
97-2 it passed it anyway. They don't give a fuck about the sex trafficking, they just want it out of plain site so people can't accuse them of not doing anything about it anymore.
Also ironic is how the this Bill amends the telecommunications act of 1996,which legalised media-crossownership for the first time in US history, instantly allowing clearchannel to monopolise the radio, and paving the way for the 5 Corporations who control more than 90% of all the media we consume today to consolidate down from the 40+ at the time.
This amendment will open up the books for petty lawsuits to be filed against website operators for the acts of 3rd parties on their websites. Ambulance chasers are probably already testing the waters. The consequences are yet to be seen though. The implications obvious though. interstate-ownership of the information-superhighway.
There's still the chance trump could veto it. The bill was on his desk today April 3rd. The Justice dept wants a veto, which is a good sign. I wouldn't count on it though
That's some crazy shit. I did a little research on this and it's not unprecedented, a site named rentboy was taken down for the same shit and backpage has been unsuccessfully prosecuted before.
I guess for backpage they needed more legal cover so they used that new law congress passed. I hope it fails first amendment challenge. Fuck you Jeff Sessions.
Here is the law they're using to cripple the first amendment and the Communications Decency Act.
The Justice Department sent a letter to Congres urging them not to pass the Bill. Jeff Sessions is probably the only person telling trump to veto this.
Where can I find information on what/who all it effects. Not to mention that there's always something hidden attached to bills. Or was this the hidden part of the bill?
Hidden shit on bills is one reason most Americans dislike and/or distrust Congress.
that's the same Bill We are all talking about the same billl. H.R. 1865, Stop Enabling Child Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA) Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA)
hookers love meth you don't have backpage anymore but if you goto wallstreet and lookup hailstorm you can order a bag of meth and what pretty girl doesn't want to smoke your bag with you. get meth and get girls.
watch Sen. Ron Wyden, one of only 2 senators to vote this bill down, (Rand Paul was the other) lay it out here ⚠️he comes in at the 2 hour 53 minute mark⚠️
