You can't decentralize markets without creating opportunity for data exposure, opsec risks, scams and manipulation. Its currently something I would consider impossible to work in the dynamic way that a marketplace has to. Otherwise this is a project I would have dedicated myself to. The only problem that could be tackled is exit scams. If Monero Multisig was "accessible", we would never have a worry outside of seizures ever again. Here's to hoping a new revision of XMR MS could be part of the near future. I don't see any way with the current implementation that it is do-able.

we have a better shot at calling for the outright legalization of drugs worldwide before getting something like this even semi-safe lmao

There would be trade-offs in both directions. Centralized markets will always hold the advantage in data security regardless of anything Monero does (assuming that the admin is not a fed and is competent at promptly deleting old order data). This is specially a problem with metadata. On the other hand a decentralized market ecosystem can offer escrow diversity which would avoid the problem of having all of the market's eggs in one basket. If one egg exit scams, it's not a big loss for us. If one egg gets seized by LE, it's not a big gain for them. I say it's worth exploring not as a replacement but as an alternative.

I get where you're coming from but I think it's possible it's just a huge job that no one has been able to do yet. If I'm able to pull off a decentralized market will you support it? This is what can finally fix the darknet.

We will build a decentralized market that will be the evolution of the darknet.

Please define the words "we" and "decentralized".

I know a guy who has multiple halfway decent designs for P2P markets and forums in varying degrees of decentralization. Instead of building any of them he is busy whoring his soul out for basic survival. If you know somebody willing to pay a livable salary for a couple years then let me know and maybe I'll arrange a meeting. You won't get this off the ground without a sizeable investment regardless of what path you take, but it can certainly be a reality if the right people want it to be.

I know an entire team of guys in India and Pakistan who would do this but you're still gonna have to pay them $15/hour, and it will take many, many hours. realistically, probably 1000 hours x $15, like $15000 before you even see a prototype ready for alpha testing.

Probably another 15k for beta and like another 50k when the final product comes out lol

So, there's plenty of people willing to do it, and nobody willing to pony up. Sad. I think we're going to need a way to collectivize our community's funds before we are able to bring about anything worthwhile for ourselves. If Paris and Hug weren't feds we would probably have an on-site DAO on Dread by now.

I've seen enough on here I'm fairly certain paris and hug aren't feds. and I'm skeptical of everyone

The reason they haven't funded it is because you're adding an entirely new level of headaches, and I think dread gives them enough headache. Humans can only handle so many projects at once. the fact they handle this site alone is impressive for one or 2 humans. It would take an entire team to make what you want

You may be right about the extra load being too much to be worth it depending on the frequency and severity of these headaches, but it would not take a team. I'm not talking about a blockchain DAO, just an on-site one. They've already done half the work by having a stable database and Monero infrastructure. The functionality is trivial to implement.
i'm your arch nemesis dark punisher. I HEREBY DECREE the CENTRALIZED MARKET MANDATE. I will do everything in my evil powers to prevent you from EVER creating such a market. It's over. Give up now.

Every time "Either the biggest markets exit scam or they get taken down by LE" happens this kinda threads pop up and never get anywhere.
It's a good idea but hard and probably even impossible to implement.

It's far from impossible. It may however not be viable for the use case of highly illegal drug transactions. There's a degree of safety through privacy in centralization that cannot be replicated by decentralized models, except maybe by wizard tier cryptographers like whoever invented Monero.

Whatever technology is used must distance itself from the use case. If all the technology is good for is explicitly illegal activities then it's not unthinkable that LE could take down the network by seizing all significant nodes. In other words it cannot be "just" a drug market.
