Tor-friendly SMS? : HiddenService | Torhoo darknet markets

I have friends who use the Burner app when they need an anonymous phone number (think account verification, 2FA, bitcoin exchange verification), but I? have my doubts about security with the number being tied to a personal phone number and thus the owner’s name.

I?’m not sure how much heat one would have draw to invite a subpoena, but I’m sure app company x wouldn’t violate it.

I? know sites like SMSReceiveFree.com exist, but accessing via Tor runs into the captcha issue.

Is there a hidden service or tor-friendly clearnet site for temporary burner numbers? Browser or desktop access would be ideal.

What would be the exposure of using a site like SMSReceiveFree on desktop or iOS using a reputable VPN?

Thanks for any help, friends.

TextNow is the best solution for US based/bound messaging afaik. The site you mentioned is blacklisted by many services and providers and so is TextNow which maybe a downside of using these services .

I have instructions in /d/SteadySupplies for how to use Signal Private Messenger anonymously in Whonix/Tails.

It's fairly simple.

Sign up for TextNow or similar over Tor/VPN. Use Signal CLI to register that number as a new user. Then attach Signal Desktop to that number. Now you can use Signal Desktop from within Tails/Whonix and send encrypted SMS/MMS.

I have a similar solution, also using TextNow. Requires a burner phone.
