The fact they're arrested and will get a trial and go to prison sickens me. Fucking pull them out on to the street and torture them in public slowly over the course of a week before finally killing them.

The first and foremost issue is that they didn't have an OpSec in the first place. Zero. They were just following some random guides from the internet and they though that the world ends at their keyboard (it never does). The unreasonable obsession with the digital tech as the main security driver is the main neck breaker. It is one of the components of security, not the whole.

The first point in every operation is always the intelligence collection. Once enough usable intelligence is collected it is transformed into an intelligence product. That intelligence product is used to identify the potential targets (IRL). Then the tailored surveillance operation is mounted on each of those targets to avoid false positives.

Once they Observe the real target, they go on with other OODA steps in line - Organize, Decide and Act. If you don't have the detection in place and traps, Defensive Counterintelligence, you are a walking dead.

The main and cheapest way to identify the Tor users is to use ISP data (historical and live) from the main Tor countries - US, DE, NL. This way you get about 68% of all Tor traffic. With the DE and US only you get about 50% of the Tor traffic. You analyze the traffic and get very few suspects to target with additional, tailored surveillance.

Tor is not here for the freedom fighters. It was created and exists only to support the US friendly insurgency and counterinsurgency agents in the field. Those are the real Tor clients. Period. We are just decoys serving as a smoke screen to them. Tor is not created to be used from within the western countries. They share the traffic data. It is to be used from within the countries like China, Russia or Iran. They don't have an access to the ISPs data of US, DE and NL, right? Same for the servers. They let the DN traffic alive to cover their agents and they can take the DN with not so much effort is they want.

If you wanna use Tor from within the westerns countries, and still hide from those western countries you have to be very careful and know what you are doing.
