Did you accidentally touch the USB stick by accidnet? as a safety feature tails is set up to shut down if you remove the usb stick in a oh shit momment. In my experince it doesnt take much of anything touching the usb stick to make it shut its self down. I do buy accident pretty regularly and it can be very frustrating. But i get why the feature is there.

My thought too, if the USB is not 100%, a small touch can activate the shutdown.
