What to do if I have no laptop? Safe to use Tails on main PC? : Tails | Torhoo darknet markets
I do not have a laptop and was just wondering if it's safe to use tails from my main pc. Would I just be better off using Qubes since my PC meets the requirements for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
another point for tails is you can use the same tails on any pc
it doesn't have to be the same pc every time. you can use one tails usb on your desktop then next weekend on your laptop and everything is fine. qubes is going to be dedicated to one machine and while it does work fine installed to a USB stick it does better installed natively to the pc. tails is a live os. qubes is a hypervisor
Thank you. Would using persistent storage on Tails affect me in any way once I'd go back to using my normal OS, which is Windows? Since I know that somewhere in that process it encrypts data and I wouldn't want to damage anything when I'd go back to using my PC regularly.
Nope. Tails does not mount the other storage devices by default (You can root and mount these, obviously I WOULD NOT recommend this.) If you need to get files to the Tails USB, use a second USB drive and then secure erase the second USB device after your files are moved over. Don't forget to back up with Tails Cloner! Files get corrupt, USB drives fail, etc.
Once again thank you. I have read through your posts before and they were always very helpful, and I really appreciate you directly answering these questions I had. :)
Yeah, I was just wondering if there would be any security risks from using Tails on my main PC since I often see people say to use a whole separate device
the whole point of tails is to keep every trace of activity off the storage and residing only in it memory (ram) meaning it is wiped when the computer shuts down and ram losses power after about 15 seconds... the thing about using a different machine is all about finger printing. anything identifiable from machine to machine. both tails and qubes are good for there own purposes. qubes is a daily driver for best security you segregate everything you do on your pc in its own isolated virtual machine and routing is forced through tor / whonix when using that vm. tails is better for sporadic use and not necessarily dedicating your computer to being your new security obsession

So i am new youll probably be able to tell from this question.... But what is yalls thought about navigating TOR on android with VPN before connecting to TOR? Im not doing anything but reading articles and browsing sometimes looking at markets... Is this a stupid thing to be doing from a cellphone? Been reading alot about this would like to see what you have to say. Thanks god bleas happy 4th!!
I'd suggest you either make a thread in the appropriate section asking this same question. Furthermore, you can also try to search using the search function to see if anyone has asked your question before.
Your best bet would be going to the opsec section, as its the most popular section. Just create a thread and explain the question you have. I reread what you originally said and in my opinion you have nothing to worry about if you're just reading articles and looking at markets, however when it comes to wondering the safety of using TOR on android with vpn I have no clue.
i would probably also say that based on your previous post u hav already compromised ur opsec if LE is monitorin your county for DNM stuff. It is also not advisable to use your cellphon as it can tie up your service provider and cellphone number easily to you even if your using TOR and VPN the reason why Tails is always mentiond here
Desktops often have video cards, and Tails does not play well with NVIDIA video cards. Otherwise, give it a shot and see how it works.
