Whonix is great overall, in and of itself. It's Windows and Mac that is the problem. Telemetry and darknet is a bad combination. Both Microsoft and Apple products seek consumer information. And, when you're on the darknet doing what you're doing, you want as much privacy as possible from prying eyes.

I have no experience with Mac that would help. The best security setup would entail enabling the firewall, filtering inbound traffic, turning off any telemetry service, enable full disk encryption, keep your location services private, show all filename extensions, disable Bluetooth, use a strong password, disable remote access, disable automatic login---as you can see I'm just listing tasks as opposed to promoting any magical product.

dont sleep on tails for mac until you try it. people told me it wouldnt work (2017 mac) but it works flawlessly and its fast. if you try feel free to message me if you need help.

Whonix is very easy to master and has everything you need pre installed.

I use it daily with no problems.

Use a Linux host OS and you will have a very secure set up.

Although I don't use it on a daily bases, it is a great OS. I, however, prefer Qubes which can be used with Whonix.
