Why do so few markets exist? : DarkNetMarkets | Torhoo darknet markets

At any one time there only seems to be a handful of markets running. I find this strange. You stand to make an insane amount of money from it, and maybe I overestimate the average persons skills, but a high enough percentage of people theoretically have the skills to make one that there should be way more at any one time. I certainly could make one, I wouldn't because I have a high risk tolerance, but I certainly have the technical skills to do it.

So I just don't understand why there aren't 100 shitty markets around at any one time, and 25 good ones. There's 8 billion people on the planet, I'd estimate at least a million of those have the skills to make a DNM. Of those even if 0.1% are willing to do it, that's 1000 potential markets that should have been made. So where are they all?

There aren’t more darknet markets because the barriers aren’t just technical, they’re also operational and existential. Running a DNM means many challenges to overcome, some of which are unknown. It's not just about spinning up some backend code; it's about logistics, trust networks, security hygiene at a high level, and navigating or evading law enforcement with real-world consequences. Most technically skilled people who could build one are smart enough to know it’s not for everyone.

That’s why there aren’t a thousand of them.

There are a lot of markets out there. A lot of them suck so they don't get a whole lot of attention. There's definitely a few new ones I see potential with also. The new ones have to be completely secure, and offer something different or unique that the existing ones do not.

Arche and other /d/superlist ones have been proven. If it's not broke, don't fix it?

What do you think determines whether a market gets popular or not?

A lot of the previous ones have been timing. The popular market exit scams, or gets seized, and the next one takes over.
But now, some of the admins have learned from the mistakes of others, and have been pretty solid. But I'll list my thoughts -
1. The site needs to be easy to use - reduce the "friction"
2. The CAPTCHA cannot be so horrendous that non-sober people cannot function it.
3. The site needs to have the products people are interested in.
4. Needs a reasonable ratings system, and a reasonable dispute system.
5. XMR (Unless some other privacy coin blows up) is a necessity.

Some vendors left DN and started using chat apps. Let's get them back here.

You haven't been around very long. When Dream was running, it was virtually the only market. Anything else was so tiny it was insignificant. AlphaBay was the same.

There are so many Markets now that I can't believe it. 95% of them are going to fail.

There are a lot of markets out there, just most of them suck ass compared to the main ones on the superlist, and it is very hard for new markets to grow especially with people hesitant to try new markets due to scam risk.

1. it is not as easy as just creating a market. In order to be reliable and attractive for customers and vendoors you have to put A LOT of work in
2. Very hard to compete against the big players, you almost have to dedicate your life to it
3. if you operate a market with at least some popularity, there are probably a ton of people every day employed by LE whose only goal is to find you. You put yourself into a lot of stress and you have to be paranoid everywhere.
