Why is Whonix trying to use my microphone? : OpSec | Torhoo darknet markets

I installed Whonix (had to get rid of Windows Smartscreen because it didnt allow me to run it).
Then while I'm running the Whonix updates using the command terminal as recommended "sudo apt-get update", etc, I see a microphone-shaped icon on my right side of Windows bottom bar, and I click and it says something like "Whonix is using microphone". So I go to windows panel and disable microphone. Next time I open Whonix it says something like Windows "stopped Whonix from accessing microphone", as if it was trying to use it again. ?

Find it weird that even in their page they recommend to always have your mic disabled for security reasons and then Whonix is trying to use it? What did I do wrong?

1. because you're using Windows as your host OS. You're doing it wrong.
2. because your Virtual Box settings allow sound and microphone to be on? Also wrong.

Ok so what do you recommend then? A Qubes VM with Whonix in it, all hosted by Windows? or you are suggesting I get rid of Windows completely?

What on earth? Why?

> get rid of Windows completely?

Yes! "How does Windows help my opsec?" is what you need to ask yourself.

You are probably using Whonix with Virtualbox on Windows. This might be some Virtualbox bug. Also Virtualbox extension pack is not opensource. It is better to use Tails in your situation.

WIndows/Virtualbox (whonix is much better to use with KVM on linux) and probably you are not a linux admin. If someone just orders something not very criminal - basically Tor browser will be enough and even better than something more complicated (conspiracy should be reasonable). It is better to use special OS when you understand what are you doing on the micro level. However Tails is pretty easy to use.
